This holiday in central Sweden is designed to showcase the exceptional wildlife which inhabits this stunning and relatively untouched landscape.
It focuses primarily on the delightful beaver, the mighty moose and the mystical wolves which call this remote area of Europe home. There is of course an abundance of birdlife to enjoy as well as the chance to witness roe deer as you explore.Read more
These animals can of course be elusive but you will be in the best possible hands as your expert guides lead the way. Hopefully you will be rewarded with some fabulous sights and sounds! The eerie howl of a wolf at night is something that sticks in the memory for a long time, regardless of whether you see the animal or not.
Your guides will impart their knowledge and share with you their wealth of experience in the region. You will also gain an understanding of the area's cultural and natural heritage.
Based in a delightful guesthouse you are assured of a warm welcome in stunning scenery. Your hosts, Eva and Allan, are also sheep farmers and will treat you with home-cooked meals made from local ingredients.
One night of this holiday is spent out in the wilderness and you will sleep in two person tents as part of your unforgettable wolf safari.
During your free time you can explore independently as you will have your own hire car at your disposal throughout.

Day 1 Flight, arrival and welcome
Upon arrival at Stockholm Arlanda Airport you will pick up your rental car and set off to begin your wildlife adventure in Sweden. It is only a two hour drive from the airport to the Pensionat Udden and the route will take you through idyllic villages which are surrounded by evergreen forests and picturesque lakes.
When you arrive at your accommodation, you will be greeted by your friendly hosts, have time to settle into your room and enjoy a meal in the dining room, overlooking the lake.
Day 2 Time at leisure and beaver safari
Enjoy a delicious breakfast and a leisurely morning on your first full day in Bergslagen.
You will have the chance to explore the stunning countryside around the accommodation. You may choose to go for a walk independently or take some of the canoes out onto the lake to gain a different perspective on the landscape. The canoes can be borrowed free of charge and life jackets and initial instruction are provided (this is not a guided activity so you do take part independently).
Birdlife is in abundance in this region and you may encounter some black throated divers or perhaps hear a woodpecker in the woods as you explore.
Lunch will be served at the guesthouse and after some time to get ready, you will meet your guide late in the afternoon or early evening for the short drive to your starting point for today's wildlife safari.
Tonight's focus is on beavers and during this five hour tour (approximate duration), your guide will impart a huge amount of their knowledge and expertise. They will give you hints and tips on how to spot the beavers and point of signs of their presence in the area. You will be silently cruising in an inflatable boat as you explore the river and lake in search of the animals.
Beavers are remarkable animals and can fell huge trees with their teeth and build dams as tall as humans. With a little luck and patience you will hopefully be rewarded with a sight of these fascinating creatures.
An outdoor dinner will be prepared for you to maximise your viewing opportunities.
Day 3 Moose safari
Again today you may enjoy a leisurely start in this tranquil location. You can use your hire car to explore or simply enjoy reading a book on the veranda (which is sometimes visited by red squirrels).
In the late afternoon or early evening you will meet with your guide once more and turn your attention to the wild moose during today's safari.
The nearby forests are possibly one of the best places in Sweden in which to encounter these wild animals, which are the largest of the deer family.
The guides here cannot guarantee sightings but they are proud to say that they have succeeded in finding wild moose on each safari in the last 10 years so your chances are pretty good!
As evening falls you will spend the time hiking and driving in search of these vast animals. Another tasty outdoor meal will be prepared for you this evening and you will be out for around five hours in total.
Day 4 Wilderness wolf overnight safari
After free time at leisure it is time for you to prepare for the most exceptional adventure as you set off on your overnight wilderness experience.
Tonight will be all about the wolves of this wild land and will offer the chance to safely get closer to them in their natural habitat. These mysterious, wild, charismatic and powerful animals are actually incredibly shy and it is rare to see them in the wild so tonight is about listening to the wilderness sound track that they provide. The sound of hearing a wolf howling is something that echoes through every bone in your body and is an experience that is never to be forgotten.
You will meet one of Sweden's foremost wolf researchers, who will tell you a great deal about these mystical animals before you head towards the wolf territory where you will set up a tented camp together.
Enjoy an outdoor dinner under the stars around a campfire, whilst waiting for the wolves to howl. You will spend the night in a tent, provided with a sleeping bag, small pillow and an inflatable mat.
Day 5 Depart or extend your stay
After a night in the wilds listening to nature's call, it is sadly time to bid farewell to Sweden and its inceredible wildlife.
You will return to Pensionat Udden for a well-deserved shower and breakfast before returning to the airport to take back your car and return home.

Stockholm city break
As the majority of our holidays in Sweden include flights which connect through Stockholm, we do encourage our guests to take advantage of the chance to visit this wonderful city.
Stockholm is frequently depicted as one of Europe's most beautiful cities and presents a welcoming combination of modernity with its dazzling cityscape of islands and a more historic feel with harbour side houses and cobbled streets.Read more about this activity
Our favourite places to visit include the Nobel Prize Museum showcasing past recipients, as well as Drottningham Palace, the home of the Swedish Royal family. For nature lovers we would also suggest a visit to the beautiful island of Bjorko and the UNESCO listed Woodland Cemetery (Skogskyrkogården).
One of the best things about Stockholm is that is a simple and straightforward city to navigate. In particular it has efficient public transport in the form of its Metro, whose beautifully decorated stations have led to it being labelled as the longest art gallery in the world.
When it comes to food and drink the city has an array of restaurants which offer both traditional Swedish food and nouveau Nordic cuisine.
Overall, the city is an excellent base for stopovers with an array of attractions for visitors. Please get in touch with our Travel Experts if you would like to discuss this further.
Please note that any stopover is subject to flight availability.

Approximately 2 - 16 people
Most of our holidays require a minimum number of participants to operate. Minimum numbers are detailed on each holiday page and are always approximate. Group sizes for tailor made holidays will vary for each of the activities. For private departures you may also be joined by other guests during the activities unless you have discussed specific private activities with us.

We will always do all we can to operate a holiday and in some cases we may be able to operate the holiday by combining your itinerary with that of other guests for some activities (this may mean that the maximum group size is increased but this will be discussed in full with you).
If we are unable to operate the holiday then you will be offered the chance to transfer to an alternative holiday or date (subject to availability). If the alternative is more expensive you will be asked to pay the difference, if it is cheaper then you will be reimbursed.
