Luosto Tunturi

Nights: 1-3

Luosto is a charming ski village in Finnish Lapland with a picturesque backdrop of forested fells, making it the ideal winter retreat. With its handful of shops and cafés, the village manages to maintain a traditional Northern Finnish feel and the guests have easy access to local facilities.

The Luosto Tunturi Spa Hotel is one of only two hotels in the town and continues to be one of our most sought after accommodation options. The hotel combines 150 comfortable bedrooms in varying room types, with a swimming pool, spa facilities and three restaurants.

Hotel facilities

The restaurants at the hotel serve an array of local and international dishes.

The main Tunturi restaurant, used for the majority of our trips, serves buffet style meals. The meals often include choices of one or two dishes and local specialities for evening meals. There is also the Bistro restaurant, which is smaller and serves à la carte meals. Finally, the Kelo Log Restaurant, just a short walk down the road, is a vast log cabin restaurant and is used in some of our programmes one evening.

  • A highlight of the facilities at the Tunturi is the pool as well as the spa facilities, which are a wonderful place to unwind in after a long day outside
  • The pool has massage and waterfall points and there is also a hot tub for guest use
  • The sauna wing at the hotel offers both Turkish and Finnish saunas, which are heated daily
  • The Amethyst Spa offers guests a range of massage and beauty treatments which you can book in advance or upon arrival (subject to availability and payable locally)
  • There are seven neighbouring downhill ski slopes and ski hire is available locally. The hotel will also help you arrange ski passes. Also cross-country skis and snowshoes can be hired locally for you to explore the variety of trails surrounding the hotel.
  • There is free Wi-Fi available throughout the hotel for guest use

Room types

Standard double/twin rooms: There are 64 standard rooms at the Tunturi which all have an en-suite toilet and shower room and other facilities including hairdryer, drying cupboard, minibar and television

Each room also has a sofa bed which you can convert into a bed for an additional adult

Superior double/twin rooms: The superior rooms are similar to the standard rooms but are all in the new wing of the hotel and have been recently renovated. All rooms have an en-suite toilet and shower room and other facilities including a hairdryer, a drying cupboard, a minibar and television. In addition, there are tea and coffee facilities in each room.

There is also a sofa in each room that can be converted to accommodate one extra adult.

Upgrade supplements will apply - please speak to our Travel Experts for more information and a quote.

The Tunturi and Amethyst suites: The hotel also has a small number of suites for guest use, which are ideal for those looking for a bit more space. The twelve Tunturi Suites each have one bedroom for two people. The three Amethyst Suites have two bedrooms and accommodate up to six people.

All the suites are equipped with a lounge area, a kitchenette, shower room with private sauna, a hairdryer, a television, a drying cupboard and a balcony.

Other options

Wilderness Cabins

Wilderness cabin accommodation is reserved for those people enjoying overnight safaris. There can surely be few better forms of escape from the everyday stresses (which could include laptops, mobiles and your day job) than a night in one of these cabins. Their isolation also means that the views of the night sky are incredible.

The Northern Lights could well pay you a visit should conditions be right and, if the sky is clear, you will never forget the sight of the galaxy overhead.

The title is fairly self-explanatory as the cabins are located in the wilds. The cabins that you visit are determined by the conditions of the trails you are using. They are varied in their set up but all offer the same incredible experience of complete silence in the evening (not guaranteed if you are dog sledding as the huskies do like a howl now and then!).

Some of the cabins are more basic than others, as some have no electricity or running water. Everyone will join the guide to help set up camp by collecting wood and water if needed. Participating enhances the wilderness experience.

Once the fire is lit, the food is cooked. The guides prepare your meals over an open fire and our guests always provide exceptional feedback on the meals that the guides rustle up.

Should you have specific dietary requirements, please mention these at the time of booking.

There are no showers or bathroom facilities in the cabins but this is all part of the adventure. Scandinavia is renowned for its saunas and the wilderness cabins are no exception. Once heated, you can steam clean in the sauna. The toilet facilities are normally a short walk from the cabin and are compostable. We certainly recommend a head torch for any ventures to the toilet during the night!

In most cases, the sleeping arrangements are dormitory style. You will be given your own arctic-grade sleeping bag in which to sleep and, combined with your thermals and the open fire, this should keep you lovely and warm.

You will carry with you all that you need for any stay in the cabins, so luggage is typically restricted to the essentials. Your main bag will be securely stored back at the hotel and a safe is provided for your valuables.

There is something so refreshing about realising that you can strip back your belongings and enjoy such a simple but satisfying experience.

Depending on the weather conditions you might spend the nights in cosy and warm basecamp tents at one of the wilderness camps.

Special Nights

Overnight Husky Safari

From: £548pp

Experience the ultimate dog sled trip as your eager team leads you on an overnight wilderness adventure. After full instruction, you will set off into the wilds with your guide leading the way. Everyone will travel with their own sled and team of dogs and so this is a real hands-on experience from start to finish.

Your destination is a wilderness cabin where you will enjoy an evening of campfire cooking and camaraderie. There's no running water out here, nor electricity, so this is a real back to basics experience – but one you will never forget. All guests will help collect firewood and prepare the meals before staying in the dormitory accommodation.

This safari offers the best opportunity for guests to really bond with a team of dogs as you will spend a full 24 hours in their company. The distances travelled will depend entirely on the conditions but you should expect to cover around 20km per day. Guides, instruction, dinner, breakfast and equipment included.

Available: Monday and Wednesday at 12 pm

Duration: 24 hours (approximately)

Please note that prices vary depending on departure date:

06 Jan 2020 – 22 Mar 2020 - Adult £629

Arctic View Room

Why not start or end your holiday in real style with a night in a stunning Glass Arctic View Room! These rooms are situated close to the Hotel Aurora, a short walk from the Tunturi Hotel and the cabins.

These luxurious rooms offer great views of the northern skies. The panoramic windows and partially glassed roofs mean that they are ideal for keeping your eye out for a potential Aurora display.

Hotel Aurora's ten rooms will bring guests closer to the Finnish Winter's polar nights in total comfort – with high-quality features, fully-equipped bathrooms and great views. Guests will enjoy dinner in the delightful restaurant at Hotel Aurora and breakfast the next day is also included.

Standard prices are based on guests spending their first or final night in the Arctic View Rooms. You will, therefore, be asked to check out of your previous hotel room or cabin on the morning before your stay. If you would prefer to keep your hotel room or spend a different night in these unique rooms (or indeed if they are fully booked for your final night) supplements will apply. You can of course also choose to spend an additional night in Lapland to enjoy these rooms following your holiday.

Please contact one of our Travel Experts for a complete quote.

Please note: prices are based on you spending the first or last night of your holiday in this unique accommodation and not keeping your original accommodation. If you would like to do this on any other night during your holiday you will need to keep your accommodation and supplements will apply.

Keep yourself busy!

Service provided by Artisan team to tailor a last minute holiday to our personal requirements cannot be faulted. 21 February 2020 by Ronald Collier

Taxi pickup / transfers to & from the airport were excellent.

One day I hope to return to Lapland. 20 March 2018 by Patricia & David Haworth

I enjoyed everything I did..snowmobiling, the husky run, the reindeer sleigh ride, digging for amythests were I found a fair sized one, the walks around the village, swimming and jacuzzi, the evening meal in the Kota, even to an extent the snowshoeing hike. If I could only pick one it would be the Husky Farm..especially being allowed to cuddle a 4 week old puppy for a few minutes. We had a

fantastic time, did manage to see the Aurora, even though we missed the spectacular showing on the Wednesday evening. The meal in The Kelso Restaurant was excellent. Everyone was so friendly and polite. Nothing was too much trouble for us. One day I hope to return to Lapland.

We had a fabulous holiday 22 February 2018 by The Banerjee Family

Loved all of it but the highlight was the Afternoon With The Huskies. Exciting, fun, had a great adventure with the dogs. We had a fabulous holiday. We really enjoyed all the activities - huskies, snowmobile safaris, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing. The guides were great and everything was well organised. The hotel was very nice. The rooms were basic but comfortable. I loved having a drying

cupboard in the bathroom - never had this before. The food was good and loads of it, and the restaurant staff were very pleasant. I was particularly impressed with the effort they made for my son who is vegan. Every morning and evening they brought him his own vegan meal out. He said that most of it was very good. Only slight disappointment was that we didn't get to see the Northern Lights as it was too cloudy, however, this gives me a good excuse to go back!

I cannot think of one thing that needed improvement. 07 February 2017 by Terry and Suzanne Scott

Perfect holiday from the initial enquiry with Artisan to booking activities and eventually heading home. Everything we had wanted was laid on and the staff were great. All we had to do was have fun! I cannot think of one thing that needed improvement. Thank you for recommendations and taking the time to ensure that all was so well organised. This holiday was absolutely perfect.

Good for the soul 05 February 2017 by Penny & Alastair Newson

We were able to enjoy the holiday without worrying that we had missed something due to the thoroughness of the info provided & the way it was provided. The pre-prep was great & team very helpful. Luosto is an amazing place. So peaceful, tranquil, beautiful, unspoilt - a place good for the soul. We felt we had been away for a month we were so relaxed. Greta – the guide/rep is superb.

Nothing was too much bother for her. Her enthusiasm rubbed off on us. She gave us some great tips to enjoy the holiday even more, such as talking to the guides and finding out about them & doing things like the locals do like lighting fires in the shelters & cooking sausages. She was great to spend time with & always asked us about our day. She is great at listening & remembering and making things extra special. She is a real asset to Artisan Travel & if all guides were as good as her I would go on ‘guided’ holidays all the time from now on. Our favourite activities included the snowshoe hike across the fells at night. The scenery was stunning and Hanna out guide was fab. She was a font of all knowledge explaining all the flora and fauna, showing us the animal tracks & checking that we were all ok regularly. She tested out everything before we did it, was really considerate and obviously enjoys what she does. Cross-country ski lesson with Hanna and Sonia – again it was the 2 guides that made this. I was quite nervous, but they were so good, breaking everything down & giving us different ways of making it easier. They are both GREAT teachers. Again so good that we are now planning a cross-country snowshoe holiday for next year! Husky adventure - again made by our guide. It was great to spend time with the dogs & enjoy the experience of the sleigh & the dogs’ enthusiasm. Long snowmobile safari – again because of the guides who were very thorough with instructions & also giving handy hints. They obviously really enjoy what they are doing which makes it more fun for us. This holiday was the best holiday I have ever had & truly a holiday of a lifetime. I will definitely recommend Artisan Travel & Luosto to anyone who will listen to me.

What a fantastic trip! 28 November 2016 by Mark Watts (group of 13 travellers)

What a fantastic trip! The staff in the office (especially Dawn and Karen) were extremely knowledgeable, helpful and responsive and all of the paperwork was informative and comprehensive. We stayed for three nights at the Tunturi hotel and then one night in the Glass igloos at the Aurora Hotel. Both were very comfortable with good food, excellent staff (especially Ella and Ritta at the Aurora)

and the night in the Arctic View rooms was magical. The activities were well organised. The guides (especially Laura) were very approachable and gave good clear advice without making anything seem too daunting. We did two snowmobile safari's (one to the reindeer farm and the other in search of the Northern Lights) and also a Husky safari all of which were well organised and great fun. In addition, we also enjoyed sledging and a long but beautiful walk around the lake by the hotel. Finally, our local Artisan Travel rep Greta was charming, helpful, and a pleasure to be with. She was always available when we needed her and did a thoroughly professional job but with personal touches which showed how much she loves what she is doing. Thanks to everyone at Artisan Travel for such a wonderful experience - we are already looking forward to our next trip with you!

I'd just like to extend my thanks for making this possible 19 March 2015 by Alexander West

My girlfriend enjoyed the dog sledding the most. I enjoyed the snowmobiling more; but that's probably because I'd done a 5 day dog sledding trip 2 years ago. My girlfriend is a wheelchair user; so were a bit concerned that we may not be able to fully participate in the activities we booked; but thanks to your staff we were able to do everything on the agenda. I'd just like to extend my thanks for

The icing on the cake was meeting the 4 week old pups 19 March 2015 by Christine Essex

Favourite activity: The husky safari. My son adores huskies; so to spend Mother's day; driving me in the sledge with the glorious blue sky enhancing the superb scenery was really magical. Tim is also very fit; so he also enjoyed the personal challenge. The icing on the cake was meeting the 4 week old pups.
