Do I need a high level of fitness for a multi-activity summer holiday?

No. None of our multi-activity holidays require a high level of fitness and we will provide information on the length of each activity as well as its difficulty.

You also don’t need any prior experience of an activity unless we clearly state this is required, as all our activities come with dedicated guides and experts to help teach you the ropes.

Summer activity holiday destinations

In the summer months, many regions offer a wide variety of activity options for all levels. Some of our itineraries include the activity highlights we feel you simply have to try and other holidays are left completely open for you to choose how you wish to experience the destination.

In Gozo for example, we offer you the chance to choose from a range of activities such as sea kayaking, cycling, climbing and hiking. You might want to fill up every minute with exciting activities or you could have a combination of active experiences with relaxing moments such as enjoying the delightful cuisine, exploring the picturesque coastline or delving into the island’s history and culture.

In both the Azores and Madeira, you’ll explore on land and at sea for an all-encompassing experience of these brilliant archipelagos. Activities on these striking islands include walks, cycling and kayaking as well as some optional extras such as canyoning and full day hikes.

Or perhaps you’d like to visit Croatia, where a combination of historic cities and island havens await. There are many different activities on offer to help you explore this wonderful region, including cycling, snorkelling and paddle boarding.

During our adventure holiday you will stand in awe at the foot of a volcano, fly through the treetops, and boat through incredible rainforest canals – all activities are included in the cost of the holiday. One of the advantages of the country’s small size is that there are no arduous days full of travel or internal flights in order to enjoy them, as everything is within a manageable distance.

Or perhaps you will have dinner at one of the many restaurants in front of the hotel. [1] => After a hearty Costa Rican breakfast, you will get straight down to business. Your guide will meet you at the hotel and give you an overview of the exciting day ahead before you all head to the Poas Volcano National Park. The park is home to the active Poas Volcano and has one of the largest craters in the world!  The National Park features one of the summits of the Central Mountain Range, which boasts magnificent natural landscapes. It offers an excellent introduction to Costa Rica's diverse natural world. We recommend that you wear walking shoes, hat, sunscreen, and rain jacket. Next on the itinerary is a short drive along scenic roads through dairy farms and flower plantations to La Paz Waterfalls Gardens. This incredible area is a Nature Park and a Wildlife Refuge and Rescue Centre that features some of the most famous waterfalls in Costa Rica. 0You will walk on a well-maintained trail to see four majestic waterfalls, stopping at unique viewpoints along the way to admire the forest. There's also a hummingbird garden, serpentarium, frog pond, a small aquarium and large enclosed butterfly observatory. This tour includes entry fees, lunch and taxes. [2] => Today’s early start will be well rewarded and you will enjoy a traditional Costa Rican breakfast en route to your destination; the river port of La Pavona. You will meet your boat for the transfer through the long waterways and canals mirroring the jungle into the Tortuguero National Park (approximately three to four hours transfer depending on traffic and road works, including the boat trip). Along the route, you will be able to catch a glimpse of the local wildlife and plant life that call this home. Tortuguero is one of the most biologically diverse regions in the world, navigating through beautiful rivers, canals, and lagoons. Have a unique experience in this exceptional place of imposing beauty surrounded by a great variety of flora and fauna. After arrival and time to refresh in your rooms at Pachira Lodge, a family-style lunch will be served at the lodge. After lunch at your lodge, you discover the local town by boat for a walk and to mingle with the locals. You will visit the Green Sea Turtle Conservancy Museum to learn about the lush tropical environment in which you now find yourselves and their conservation effort to preserve one of the most critical reproductive and spawning sites of the Green Sea Turtle (Chelonia Mydas) in the Western Hemisphere. Tortuguero in Spanish means gathering of turtles. After returning to the lodge, there will also be some free time to explore or relax around the swimming pool Before a tasty family-style Caribbean dinner. [3] => After breakfast, you will embark on a guided boat exploration and wildlife observation of the surrounding river waterways and canals in Tortuguero National Park followed by a guided walk. Lunch will be served back at the hotel restaurant at 12.00pm and the afternoon is yours to enjoy how you please. Take a dip in the pool or watch the lush tropical scenery from the comfort of your hammock. [4] => This morning you will leave your lodge by boat, before travelling inland by coach to the wonderful and lush green scenery of Sarapiquí and your Rainforest camp.  You will stop for lunch en route at a local restaurant and afterwards continue your private transfer to a peach palm plantation inland in Palmitour for a unique insight of an ancient staple food tree of the rain forest cultures in the Americas. The Pejibaye Palm Tree is among the native species of the lush, green rainforest of Sarapiqui and your next destination, Selva Verde Lodge & Reserve. Join the local naturalist guide in early morning for a walking tour in this Private Reserve, experiencing first-hand the wonder of the many species of birds while exploring this tropical and diverse rainforest. Lose yourself in nature, activities, and culture in the Azores with this brilliant seven-night active family summer getaway, based in the city of Ponta Delgada on Sao Miguel Island.

You will begin with an adventure tour to the Sete Cidades Lake, kayaking on its crater lake and mountain biking in the nearby area. There will be an amazing whale-watching tour over the Atlantic waters, as well as lagoon-snorkelling* at the Vila Franca Islet. 

There will be a chance for you to get acquainted with the island’s volcanic side at Terra Nostra Botanical Garden, where you will bathe in a hot spring. At Furnas, you can taste a traditional cozido stew, cooked using natural steam from the ground. This mix of regional vegetables and juicy meats is only one Azorean delicacy you will be able to sample.

The outdoor reserves and territories of the island will be yours to explore during this trip. Try your hand at canyoning in Ribeira dos Caldeiraes Natural Park, walk over the black sands of Santa Barbara Beach, and take a dip at the Caldeira Velha waterfall. There is also the opportunity to look around the mysterious Gruta do Carvao, the longest of the lava tunnels on Sao Miguel.

Your hotel for the duration of this exciting family activity holiday will be Hotel Canadiano close to the centre of Ponta Delgada, with modern spacious rooms, perfect for relaxing after a day of adventure. You can also upgrade to Sao Miguel Park, with indoor and outdoor pools and splendid spa facilities, or the Marina Atlantico hotel, which sits right on the waterfront and offers brilliant views over the marina.

You and the family will be picked up and transferred in no time to your hotel. Check in and settle in for the night. [1] => Eat a substantial breakfast before an exciting, full-day outing: the Sete Cidades Adventure Tour! This takes you to the Western side of São Miguel Island to the famed Lagoa das Sete Cidades or Lake of the Seven Cities, and along the way, you will stop at some viewpoints. The deep crater lake is divided by a bridge, virtually forming two lakes that showcase different colours and are known as the Blue and Green Lakes – a wonderful environment where everyone will spend the day mountain biking and kayaking. There will be a picnic lunch break along the way. In the evening, you will be treated to a lovely welcome dinner with a spread of Azorean specialties. Our friendly guide will be on hand to answer any questions about the rest of your holiday. [2] => After breakfast, you can look forward to a fabulous whale-watching tour to fill up the morning. There aren’t many places which are as highly regarded for this pastime as the Azores – the islands have even had visits from National Geographic and the BBC! Expert biologists will give you full briefings on safety measures and responsible whale watching before you are taken out over the water by Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) (restrictions may apply for pregnant women and people with lower back problems). Depending on luck and the time of year,there are over 25 different whale and Dolphin species that you might spot, as well as other marine creatures. Life vests and waterproofs are provided.  You will then be transported in a converted fishing boat to the beautiful islet of Vila Franca: a green ring around a crater lagoon. You and the kids can go swimming in this marvellous natural reserve. Snorkelling equipment is not provided, so we recommend bringing your own. Species to look for include rainbow wrasses and Guinea-fowl puffers. [3] => Today is a volcanic culture day! Once you have had breakfast, your first stop will be at one of the oldest remaining tea plantation and factory in Europe, the Gorreana Tea Estates. In addition to looking around, you will also get to sample their produce. It is a must for tea-loving families. From there, it is onto Caldeiras das Furnas with its fumaroles and mineral water springs; they say the water has a different flavour in each one! On the way, you will stop at a viewpoint. For lunch, you will all be served cozido, a traditional Portuguese stew with a succulent selection of meats slow-cooked with locally-produced vegetables. Once you have all feasted, everyone will be taken to the famous Terra Nostra Botanical Garden, which showcases a rich variety of native and foreign plants; it is a very pretty place to stroll around. Finishing off this visit is the opportunity to get into a naturally heated pool, with water rich in iron. At a temperature of between 35°C to 40°C, it makes for a super-relaxing experience. Returning to Ponta Delgada, you will make a couple of stop-offs to take in awesome coastal views; cameras at the ready! [4] => This morning following breakfast, you’ll head to ‘Quinta do Agricultor’ for a true Azorean experience on the farm. Locals, Eugenio & Gorete, will greet you on arrival for fun filled ‘day in the life of’ adventure. This husband and wife team are hugely passionate and will share their wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm for their traditional way of life. During your visit, as well as learning about Azorean culture, you will have the opportunity to meet an array of farm animals and even try milking a cow! [6] => Following breakfast at the hotel, it’s time to make the most of your final full day in the Azores with an unforgettable canyoning adventure in the Ribeira dos Caldeirões Natural Park. If you’re looking for somewhere to eat, the Old Cellar restaurant in the centre of Bled will make for a memorable meal: the restaurant gets its name from its location in a 500-year-old wine cellar, with friendly staff serving both international and traditional Slovenian cuisine. Alternatively, you could always grab some local delicacies and enjoy a scenic picnic on the banks of Lake Bled.  [1] => Following a delicious breakfast, you and your family will stroll to the meeting point located near your hotel where you will meet your guide and be transferred to the Sava River to get suited up for the day’s adventures. As well as full safety instructions and training on the rules of conduct in the raft, your guide will also provide you with a neoprene suit, a life jacket, a helmet, and a paddle.  You’ll raft down the river rapids, floating past beautiful landscapes as you wind between white boulders, working together to steer with the course of the river. By the time you reach the end of the course, you’ll be wanting to go again! You will be out on the river for approximately 1 hour, with the whole activity lasting around 2-3 hours, after which you will be transferred back to Bled. Please note that children must be at least 120cm tall to participate. If you’re not quite done with water for the day, we thoroughly recommend a visit to the Živa Wellness centre and a dip in one of its six pools; a daily entrance pass is included during your stay, limited to 3 hours access per day. With a spa for Mum and Dad to relax in and a water slide for the kids, relaxing in a pool watching the sun set over Lake Bled is a magical way to finish your day off.  [2] => Stock up on a hearty breakfast this morning ready for the day’s adventures, which will take you to an amazing series of canyons at the base of the Julian Alps. Like yesterday, you will stroll to the meeting point located just a few minutes from your accommodation where you will meet your guide and drive to the activity’s starting point. Once there, you will be surrounded by tumbling waterfalls and beautiful emerald pools. You will be provided with a wetsuit, shoes, harness, and helmet prior to a full safety briefing and demonstration by your guide. Once you’re all suited up and harnessed in, the adventures begins! To make your way from the top of the canyon to its base, you will slide down natural water tunnels, climb down a series of secured rope abseils and jump into the crystal-clear river pools carved out by Alpine run off. The canyoning will take approximately 1 hour, and you will be out for roughly 3 hours in total. Children must be at least 120cm tall to participate. After enjoying this superb family activity, you will be transferred back to Bled where you will be free to do what you wish this afternoon.  So, dinner tonight – did we mention that Slovenia borders Italy? The Spica - Bar and Restaurant will serve you up fine Italian cuisine so authentic you’ll forget which side of the border you’re on!  [3] => By day four of looking out over Lake Bled’s beautiful scenery, we are sure you will have wondered what lies on the other side of the lake. Today you will find out! After breakfast, you’ll spend the morning cycling along the shores of Lake Bled and exploring sights off the tourist track. The meeting point for this activity is located just a few minutes from your accommodation where you will meet your guide to start your biking adventure.   The family-friendly route will take you through the villages near the lake’s shore, offering majestic views of the Julian Alps, Kamnik-Savinja Alps, and Karavanke mountains. Once you’re about halfway, you will walk up to a high viewpoint which will allow you to admire the panoramic views of Bled Castle. While you will know it quite well by now, it looks very different from a distance and even more beautiful when framed by the lake and island.  After hiking around the lush woods at Pokljuka Gorges and exploring natural sights most tourists won’t see, you’ll cycle back to the centre of Bled and be rewarded with a slice of authentic Bled cream cake for all your hard work. For parents there are E-bikes available to rent for a supplement; if you would like one, we advise booking in advance. Please speak to one of our Travel Experts for further information. The route is generally easy and relatively flat; it is approximately 25km long and you will be out for up to 4 hours.  After your morning travelling by bike, you will have the afternoon free to enjoy as you choose.  [4] => While the idea of ziplining may be a daunting one for those afraid of heights, there is no better place to face your fears than Zipline Dolinka in Bled. This family-friendly zip-lining course is located in the stunning Sava Valley, a protected nature reserve, with beautiful views and idyllic surroundings.  After breakfast, you and your family will take a short walk from your hotel to a different meeting point where you will meet your guide and be transferred to the activity’s starting place. Once you have arrived, you will be provided with all of the necessary equipment (harness, helmet, and gloves) before receiving a full safety briefing and demonstration. The staff are very experienced at dealing with more hesitant adventurers and are happy to take the time to familiarise guests with the equipment. When reaching the first aerial platform, the guide will teach you about the rules you need to follow, explain the basics, and hook you up on the steel wire using a harness while making sure you are safe and ready to fly. You will then soar through the air on seven different steel wires, each varying in length, making your way to the bottom of the scenic valley. The activity will last for around 2-3 hours in total. Please note that children under the age 13 years will descend in tandem with a guide.  This afternoon you will have some free time; why not enjoy the swimming pool at Ziva Wellness Hotel? Alternatively, have you visited Bled Castle yet? It’s a beautiful building containing more than a thousand years of history within its high stone walls.   [5] => Exactly as wondrous as its name suggests, this full day tour is the perfect way to round off your trip). This morning enjoy a hearty breakfast, pack sunscreen, swimsuits, drinks and snacks and a camera – you'll need all of these. You’ll also need to bring your passport, as you will be travelling into Italy today. You will start off on the ‘sunny side of the Alps’, venturing into Triglav National Park with your tour guide. A factor that will quickly become apparent is how different each corner of this Alpine landscape is. Your first landmark will be one of the highest waterfalls in Slovenia, Peričnik falls. After a short hike directly to it, you will also experience a walk behind the falls, seeing the beautiful landscape through a sheet of crystalline water. Once you’ve ventured out again, you will pass through Kranjska Gora and upwards to the astonishing Špik mountain range, which will offer you both the perfect background for your photo and a chance to dry off in the sun.  The Zelenci springs will be the next stop on your itinerary, one of only two places that the mighty Sava Dolinka River thunders to the surface. Clean and cold, the waters passing through layers of marl gives the Zelenci springs the well-known emerald colour. You will see another green lake as your family takes a brief hop over the Italian border to Lake Predil, whose mint-green waters are coloured by the glacier run-off high up in the Alps.    Back in Slovenia, your family will experience the rugged beauty of the Soča Valley, a paradise for adventurers and nature enthusiasts. You will stop at the Great Gorge of Soča, which offers a background for amazing photos and an opportunity to swim in the river. It’s a fabulous place for a break for lunch, with restaurants and cafes close by, or a supermarket if you would prefer a picnic. Alternatively, you can add on another activity, such as ziplining and rafting.  The sixth wonder is waiting for you on the Vršič pass, which at 1611m above sea level marks the highest road pass in the Eastern Julian Alps; the views are simply breath-taking.  Your final stop is just over the hill at Jasna Lake, a man-made lake with yet another stunning view of the Julian Alps. Its crystal-clear waters are the perfect place for a dip.  This tour has been designed to show off the stunning highlights of the Julian Alps. It is a sightseeing tour that is done at a relaxing pace, with many stops along the way. Based in the northeastern village of Xaghra, you will be close to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Ġgantija Temples, which at 5500 years old are amongst the world’s oldest freestanding structures. Gozo has been occupied by everyone from the Ancient Romans and the Arabs to the French and the British, with evidence of this rich history very much present in its lifestyle, language, and cuisine. The week will be filled with opportunities to learn more about the local way of life first-hand and tasting island delicacies. Please note that the order of activities is a guide only and they are subject to change upon arrival. [1] => Discover Scuba Dive (or Try Dive) is an ideal introduction to the world under the sea. You will begin with registration (you will be issued with some paperwork prior to going on holiday you will need to complete). You will then be provided with the full equipment necessary and begin the short course in the classroom to introduce this fantastic activity.  A full safety briefing will be given along with plenty of time for questions and answers. The day starts with a practice dive to get you used to the equipment and sensations and then a second dive where hopefully you will encounter some of the wonderful marine life. Please note:  for safety reasons, those aged 8 and 9 will be offered the chance to try a 'Bubble Maker' session. They can experience a shallow dive in pool-like conditions and a second dive up to 2m in a very calm area with no boats. Parents can join their children on this dive as long as they stick to a 2m depth. Those under the age of 8 years old will have the opportunity to snorkel on the surface of the water and view the same vibrant marine life as the other members of the group. For children 8 years and over participation in any dive will be at the guide's discretion. [2] => Today is designed to give you an insight into Gozo, its people and its traditions. At the heart of the culture lies a very healthy enjoyment of delicious food. We don’t like to give too much away about what today includes, as it is a real treat, but you will most certainly learn about what the locals like to eat and how to cook it. Of course, lunch is included today. [3] => Gozo’s coastline is irresistible, and once more you will be back out on the water, kayaking on the stunning waters. Following your guide along the coast, you will paddle your ‘sit on top’ kayaks for around two and a half hours with two to three people (children under the age of ten will typically travel with two adults) per craft. After your exciting morning, the group can enjoy the local beach for some free time to explore and relax. You can spend the afternoon enjoying the beach, swimming, and snorkelling (equipment not provided) and the cooling Mediterranean Sea. [2] => Following breakfast in the hotel, you have a free morning to explore. This afternoon, you’ll head to Mount Teide – the third tallest volcano in the world! Tenerife is known for its bright, clear skies, but its colourful sunsets and starry night skies are on a different level of spectacular. The incredible views start with your transfer as you drive through the pine forests of Corona Forestal to reach the otherworldly landscape of the UNESCO listed Teide National Park.  Passing through the historical centre of Orotava and emerging above the treeline, you’ll be above a vast sea of clouds. Along the way, you’ll stop to see the highlights and landmarks of this captivating landscape and enjoy scenic viewpoints. After sundown, the adventure continues underneath the night sky. [3] => Today has been left completely free for you to enjoy together as a family as you please. [4] => Following breakfast, you will travel to Las Americas where you will board your boat and head out onto the water for the day.  You and the family will be keeping an eye out for bottlenose dolphins and pilot whales who live here year-round. You may see other species such as sea turtles too! You’ll also travel to a secluded cove and have some time for a swim. Lunch will be served on board before the coastal cruise back to Las Americas for a free evening. [5] => Today, following breakfast, you will take a transfer (approximately 50 minutes) to Radazul beach for a fun filled morning in the water. With two black sandy beaches sheltered by a breakwater and crystal clear water, this is a calm swimming area that is perfect for discovering the underwater world via snorkelling.  Your local guide will give a short safety briefing and will accompany your family to help you spot all the colourful marine life as you snorkel. After the tour, there will be time for more snorkelling or to relax on the beach. This family holiday begins in lively Marrakech. During your 3 nights here, you and your family will stay just outside the busy city areas in the tranquility of Oasis Lodges. If you prefer to stay closer to the action, we can arrange alternative accommodation in the old town of Marrakech. This option will suit travellers keen to soak up as much Moroccan atmosphere as possible, particularly couples and families with older children.

You’ll take a tour of the astonishing souks and experience an array of sights, scents and sounds as well as an insight into the people here. Then, you’ll take a trip to the awe-inspiring Atlas Mountains, a must-see when in Morocco.

The next part of your holiday transports you to the Agafay Desert which promises to be a truly magical experience. You'll stay at either the Inara camp offering nine tents with panoramic views, an ultimate level of comfort and are fitted with electricity outlets or an equally enchanting bivouac in Scarabeo Camp which are all adorned with uniquely sourced pieces, interesting artefacts and locally crafted artwork.

Following your stay in the desert, your holiday takes you close to the beautiful port city of Essaouira. You will stay in a luxurious villa at the Rebali Riads hotel, a marvellous place with a traditional Moroccan design.

Here you will have the opportunity to sit down, discuss and arrange your own itinerary with the attentive and helpful staff. You can set your own pace and add in your choice of activities (payable locally). You can choose from a range of cultural, gastronomic and adventurous options.

In your free time, you will definitely want to enjoy the hotel’s on-site facilities. Unwind in a traditional hammam steam room, splash about in the pool, or challenge each other to a spot of tennis.

A two-hour transfer will take you to your starting point, the village of Imlil, from where you will spend the day trekking in this scenic region with a mountain guide.  Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in the Atlas Mountains, looms in the background as you take to the trail. You will walk through small hamlets and woods filled with walnut trees, weaving up to higher ground along the mountain track. The views are incredible and this is a marvellous way to show off the natural side of Morocco, which is easily missed when just sticking to popular urban attractions. There will be the chance to visit at least one village in the area for a sense of life in these rural parts of the country, you will also enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. The trip can be tailored to the needs and abilities of the group and includes lunch. You will return to Oasis Lodges in the late afternoon. Madeira is the perfect place for families to enjoy a holiday of discovery: warm waters, sun-filled days and exciting activities make this a fantastic place to explore.

You’ll be based in Funchal, the island’s small and fascinating capital and from here you can take part in all sorts of adventures. On your first day, you will explore the island as you enjoy a jeep adventure from one amazing viewpoint to another, over mountains and through valleys and along the winding coastline as you go! Stopping for a walk in the colourful mountains of Madeira, you’ll head to the stunning Balcões viewpoint, which looks out to the island’s central mountain range. From here, you’ll then go for a short walk along one of the island’s many levadas, traversing across the forested hills, filled with emerald green trees and bursting with colourful flowers and bubbling streams.

Moving from land to sea, you’ll have the chance to explore the coves and bays of the island by sea kayak, as you paddle across the beautiful blue sea in search of wildlife and adventure. You’ll then take to the seas again, aboard a RIB in search of marine life. Madeira is renowned for its whale and dolphin watching, so there’s no way we could leave this out during your time here. The boat trip will take you across the waters that surround Madeira and if nature is on your side, you’ll even get the chance to snorkel with the wild dolphins that call these waters home! A truly brilliant experience, this is sure to leave your family with fun-filled, lasting memories. 


After the excitement of the ocean, you’ll head deep into the island for a half-day of family-friendly canyoning. It’s a fantastic way to explore the island from another point of view – water slides, refreshing pools and rappels will certainly keep the family entertained!

Back on the road you will explore the Serra D’Água, the dramatic valley dividing the massif from the only plateau on the island. This tour takes you to the lush northwest, where waterfalls melt into the ocean and lava has been shaped into unique pools, perfect for a refreshing swim. You cannot help but appreciate the power of nature in this landscape dominated by ancient forests, but you will also be able to walk alongside the famous man-made channels - called Levada’s – which supply the island’s farms with plentiful water and are the basis for its amazing array of fruit and vegetables.

Finally, you’ll take to the trails as you enjoy an easy biking tour along a wide levada, surrounded by luscious forest; a fantastic way to explore the famous irrigation channels of Madeira!

[1] => Canyoning is a fantastic way to experience the island’s landscape from a different perspective and it will no doubt leave your family grinning from ear to ear, as you navigate your way along the stream. You’ll be kitted out with wet suits and canyoning shoes, with your swimming costume worn underneath. It’s then an uphill walk, followed by a steep path down through the trees to the start point. It’s the perfect canyon for novices, with a series of easy slides, pool jumps and rappels to enjoy. Our expert local guides have been working in these canyons for years and they know every little foot and hand hold there is, so you’ll be in safe hands throughout. You’ll be guided through the canyon at a pace suited to the group’s ability, taking in the incredible scenery as you work your way downstream. Filled with trees, plants and colourful flowers, it’s a wonderful place to explore – the canyon is often filled with fennel (funcho in Portuguese), which is where the name Funchal, the island’s capital, comes from. Please note that children must be over 140cm tall to participate in the canyoning. [2] => Today it’s time to explore the island by bike. Although we have selected a family-friendly trail which follows a wide and gentle Levada, we do recommend previous experience of cycling and that children be 8 and above for this experience. Please speak to our travel experts if this trip is not a good fit for your family as other options will be available. You’ll cycle for approximately two hours, as your expert guide leads you through the forest on this easy route which still offers amazing sea views. Cycling past towering trees and plants bursting with colour, this is another fantastic way to enjoy the stunning flora of Madeira in a wonderful part of the island. Each activity this week allows you and your family to explore different parts of the island by foot, kayak, bike, boat and jeep, giving you a wonderful, all-encompassing Madeiran experience; hopefully filled with an abundance of family-fuelled fun along the way! [3] => Your activity today will see you head out on the Atlantic for what will hopefully be one of your most memorable activities: whale watching and snorkelling with dolphins! If luck has been on your side, you may have already seen marine life during your kayaking this morning, but this afternoon’s adventure will be different and more personal in many ways. You will head out via RIB (Rigid-hulled Inflatable Boat) in search of your aquatic friends. Your onboard marine biologist will tell you about the marine life of the islands while your captain searches for whales and dolphins. The waters that surround the islands are rich with life and throughout the year, 28 different species can be found, including: Atlantic-spotted, bottlenose, risso's and stripped dolphins, as well as pilot, bryde and fin whales. Hopefully nature will be on your side today and give you the chance to get close to the action and excitement, as the dolphins follow your boat. If the conditions are right, you may also get the chance to join the dolphins in the sea, as you snorkel alongside the boat; a fantastically amazing experience for all of the family. Although you may not get to see the dolphins as close as you would in a marine park, the experience is far superior as you get to see them in their natural environment. Please note that snorkelling with the dolphins depends on the weather conditions at the time, as well as the dolphins’ behaviour and there is a chance that it might not be possible. Local animal welfare legislation requires participants to keep a hand on the boat at all times. There is also a possibility that not all members of the group will be able to snorkel with the dolphins before they move on, as only 6 people are allowed in the sea at any one time. [4] => Today you will head out to sea to experience sea kayaking around the coves and bays of the island. This is a great way to see the coastline of Madeira, as you paddle across the deep blue sea. Keep your eyes peeled, as you never know, you might just catch a glimpse of some marine life which can include parrotfish, trumpetfish, turtles and even manta rays. You will be kayaking for approximately two hours this morning. The kayaks are sit-ons which can accommodate two adults and one child and you will have plenty of time to swim and snorkel in the clear waters of the Garajau Nature Reserve, which is home to a variety of coastal species. [5] => A full day of excitement and adventure awaits as you explore the northern part of Madeira. You will be picked up from your hotel this morning and journey into the mountains, through deep ravines, pre-historic forests and picturesque villages. Following this, you will stop for lunch in a local restaurant (not included) with a chance to experience some of the island’s flavours, then it is on to the natural lava pools at Porto Moniz. The saltwater lava pools were naturally created by volcanic eruptions and have since filled with seawater to create the perfect swimming area, with crystal-clear waters; a wonderfully fun experience for the family! You will enjoy a walk along one of the near gravity-defying canals that supply water throughout the island, before heading back to your hotel for approximately 5-5:30 pm. [6] => A jeep expedition is a brilliant way to journey through the mountainous terrain and it will no doubt excite the family as you weave through the ravines and wind along the coastline. The island is filled with natural sights and viewpoints, from stunning plateaus to jagged mountain peaks, it is one big natural wonder. After a first stop at the bay where the Portuguese landed in 1419/20, in the southeast coast, this tour continues along the ancient royal footpath, where our sight is captured by the geometry of the oldest terraces of the island, along the beaten tracks crossing the indigenous forest. You will be amazed at the isolated rural nature of the villages we will visit. This is a tour rich in culture, with some of the most beautiful landscapes you can set your eyes on and breathtaking trails that will take you from sea level to Madeira’s highest mountains. Your jeep adventure will last the full day, starting at 9am and finishing at 5pm (approximately). For those choosing to upgrade to Hotel Splendido or Hotel Montebay Perla, you will stay on the opposite side of the bay to the town of Kotor, but it is only a short taxi ride away.

The sandy and pebbled beaches, warm climate and temperate waters make Kotor an ideal place for families and there are plenty of opportunities for you to swim in the sea, which is only a short walk from your hotel. In the town itself, you will be able to explore the winding cobbled streets and look around the piazzas with their numerous churches, restaurants, and shops. 

For a country that’s about the size of Wales, Montenegro punches above its weight when it comes to scenery and national parks. With so much to see, you will relocate to the mountain town of Žabljak to enjoy the wonders and untouched nature of Durmitor National Park for two nights during your stay. Highlights include rafting through the Tara Canyon – the deepest river canyon in Europe – and orienteering around spectacular mountain lakes.

For those staying at Hotel Marija 1, your hotel is just a short walk from the scenic shoreline of the fjord and you may want to wander some of the beautifully scenic routes that take in this ancient town in your free time. After settling in, dinner will be held at one of the most popular local restaurants in the small town, offering your first taste of traditional Montenegrin cuisine. For those opting to upgrade to Hotel Splendido, you will stay in the small village of Prcanj, on the opposite side of the bay to Kotor town, but right on the shoreline and in close walking distance of a small beach and local restaurants. Kotor is only a short taxi ride away. Dinner will be served in your hotel this evening. [1] => This first day in Montenegro has been designed to allow you to relax and enjoy your stunning new surroundings before the pace increases later on in the week.   You will spend today visiting some of the picturesque beaches around Kotor, enjoying time at each and having the chance to swim and snorkel in the clear waters with your family. [2] => Today you will visit one of the most beautiful areas in Montenegro; the Lovćen National Park. One of your first stops is a monument which was built to honour one of the country’s most popular rulers. Situated on a mountain peak, this is a truly jaw-dropping location and offers views across all of Montenegro’s borders – a great spot for a family photo.  From here you will drive to a local restaurant to enjoy a traditional Montenegrin lunch. After lunch, it is time for an adrenaline-filled high ropes adventure in the tree tops. There are numerous courses to choose from and following instructions, you will set off on the most appropriate course for your ability. There are zip wires, climbs, rope ladders and many more obstacles to enjoy during your time at the park. [3] => There will be an early start this morning as you temporarily relocate and head up to the small town of Zabljak, situated at 1450m, on Mount Durmitor. Zabljak is your base for the next two nights so you can enjoy all that this region has to offer. We can assure you that this area is well worth a visit as you will spend today and tomorrow exploring the Durmitor National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  The park offers a stunning natural landscape of carved limestone and is home to a varied range of mammals, as well as birds and butterflies, so there will be much wildlife for your children to keep an eye out for!  Your first activity is a thrilling white-water rafting experience. Upon arrival at the Tara River, you will be kitted out and the rafting fun begins. The river cuts right through the Tara Canyon making it a popular spot for rafting and it is easy to see why! This is Europe’s deepest river canyon and the scenery is utterly spectacular.  Lunch will be served after your rafting trip and you will have the chance to explore the town of Zabljak. [4] => Today provides the chance to explore two of the most delightful areas of the Durmitor National Park – Black Lake and Snake Lake.  Black Lake is edged by mountains on one side and deep forests on the other, providing incredible scenery. You will follow the trail around the perimeter of the lake, weaving in and out of the forest paths and hopefully having the chance to spot some of the local flora and fauna.  You will then be challenged with the task of navigating to your next location; your guide will give you an introduction to orienteering before you test your skills and set off to find Snake Lake, deeper in the forest. The name "Snake Lake" is taken from the gnarled roots of the trees that surround the lake, which look like snakes slithering along the ground. It's an utterly stunning location with towering mountains and crystal clear waters; a great spot for a family adventure. [5] => This morning, you will check out of your accommodation in Zabljak and enjoy a day exploring the scenery of the Durmitor National Park, before heading back to Kotor.  A short hike will give you access to some of the best vistas out across this dramatic landscape.  You will then enjoy a chairlift ride to the summit of Savin Kuk at a height of 2330m, a very enjoyable way to ascend a mountain. From the top, you should be able to see Black Lake below before you head back to Kotor.  You will have some free time in the town this afternoon before your evening meal. [6] => Back at the coast and we may well have saved the best until last! You will be paired up in teams of two before it is time to kayak on the Fjord of Kotor. As you paddle along, your guide will highlight points of interest in the town and pass on some of the local legends. You will stop off at one of the fjord’s sandy beaches for swimming and snorkelling.  The Bay of Kotor is a sheltered location which provides gentle sea conditions and a more relaxed kayaking experience.  You can expect to cover up to 6 km/4 miles at a leisurely pace. It normally takes around 3 hours and throughout the tour, you will have the chance to swim, snorkel and just stare around you at the bay’s beauty! This evening a farewell meal will be served at a local restaurant. As Croatia’s just as sunny as its Mediterranean counterparts, we are sure you’ll enjoy taking a dip in both in your downtime!  Please note that the order and timings of activities listed within the agenda is subject to change; your final itinerary will be provided to you on arrival. The activities may require an early start in the morning, with transfers to reach the starting points, but the experiences will be well worth it!  [1] => Following a delicious breakfast, you have a free morning to enjoy at leisure. At 12.30, your transfer will pick you up ready for the afternoon adveture at Centina River. As well as safety instructions and training on the rules of conduct in the raft, your guide will also provide you with a neoprene suit, a life jacket, a helmet, and a paddle.  You’ll spend an exciting three hours rafting. It’s a lovely river with plenty of excellent views for those relaxing moments when you are not negotiating the rapids.  Lunch is not included today, and we would recommend bringing snacks and water along with you. You will return to your hotel this evening at approximately 19.30 [2] => Today will take you deep into the beautiful Krka national park. Following breakfast, a transfer will be waiting for you at 09.30 to take you to the beautiful Krka National Park.  The journey to the park is approximately 1.5 hours. On arrival, you will enjoy a walking tour to the beautiful Skradinski Buk waterfall, along forest pathways and wooden bridges, surrounded by diverse flora and fauna.   You will have free time at the waterfall, where you can explore and enjoy a picnic (we recommend bringing your own snacks along, and there is a small café near the waterfall too). After this, you will take a 30-minute boat cruise along the river to the town of Skradin. You will then be driven to the charming coastal town of Primosten, before returning to your hotel ahead of a free evening.    [3] => Stock up on a hearty breakfast this morning, ready for the day’s adventures. Today, you and your family will be picked up at 08:00 from your hotel.  Today you will experience an amazing series of canyons on a different section of the Cetina River, but one that is just as stunning. With tumbling waterfalls and beautiful emerald pools at their base, it is a fabulous place to explore, and you will be provided with a wetsuit, life jacket and helmet to navigate the canyons under expert supervision. Once you are all suited up and harnessed in, the adventures begin!  To make your way from the top of the canyon to its base, you will slide down natural water tunnels, pass through underground tunnels, and jump into the crystal-clear river pools carved out by thousands of years of running water. There’s nothing like floating in softly ebbing pools to take a moment’s breather and appreciate the stunning surroundings you find yourself in.  After a transfer back to your hotel, the afternoon is free to spend as you wish.  [4] => This morning is filled with water-based fun for all of you and your family. Again following breakfast, your transfer will collect you at 08:00 for a morning of kayaking in Split. Paddle around Marjan Hill, where you can enjoy the backdrop of mountains and islands that surround this beautiful part of the world.   Your expert guide will lead the way and you will make a stop to enjoy a secluded beach and try your hand at snorkelling in the crystal-clear waters.  You will also have the opportunity to try cliff jumping if you're feeling daring! Full guidance and safety instructions will be given before the activity.  You will be returned to your hotel after the activity and have the afternoon free to enjoy the pool and beach back at your hotel.   [5] => This morning following breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel at 09.45 for an exciting day exploring Ciovo Island. A thrilling speedboat ride will take you to the Blue Lagoon which sits between three islands and is home to vivid turquoise waters surrounding Krknjaši, where you can spend the afternoon snorkelling, paddling, or simply admiring some of Croatia’s most astonishing views.   You’ll have around 2 hours free time to enjoy the lagoon, before sailing back to Trogir. You will then be transferred back to your hotel.    [6] => Today has been left free for you to do as you please. You could either have a day of rest at the hotel, enjoying the pool and beach, or perhaps take a taxi into Trogir to explore the Old Town and enjoy some fresh, local cuisine.  [7] => Unfortunately, it’s time for your Croatian adventures to come to an end. Depending on your flight time, you’ll either enjoy breakfast in the restaurant or it will be boxed up to take to the airport. Your family adventure starts in and around Kota Kinabalu. Here you will enjoy taking a boat ride past tropical islands, snorkelling along coral reefs and white-water rafting. Outside of the activities you can relax in wonderful accommodation and sample truly delicious food.

Next, it’s into the tropical rainforests for memorable encounters with some of the world’s most endangered species which are indigenous to Borneo’s rainforests. You’ll have the chance to get close to proboscis monkeys, orangutans and sun bears at their respective sanctuaries before searching for them in the wild. There will be rainforest boat trips where you are almost certain to encounter some of the abundant wildlife, as well as a visit to the spectacular Gomantong Caves, famous as a nesting ground for swifts and some 27 species of bat. Immerse yourself in Bornean culture with a local cooking class, Batik painting activity and traditional dance lesson.

Back in Kota Kinabalu, you’ll have the chance to scuba dive with our local experts and then go on an amazing mountain bike trip.  You’re sure to head home with some unforgettable memories of your tropical family adventure.

You have this evening to yourselves so you can relax and settle into your new surroundings. [1] => There is no better way to become familiar with the tropical waters of Borneo than to spend the day exploring the stunning islands and coral reefs that sit just off Kota Kinabalu. You will take a boat around the islands during the day with guided snorkelling tours during the morning and afternoon where you can get acquainted with some of the region’s aquatic wildlife. [2] => The Kiulu River rapids are graded as level 1-2 and so it is ideal for families and perfect for a really fun day. After instruction you will take to the water for a very entertaining trip downstream, passing through stunning rainforest and passing small villages. After lunch, you’ll return to the hotel around mid-afternoon. [3] => This morning you will wave goodbye to the coast and take the short flight to Sandakan (not included in the holiday cost, please speak to our travel experts for a quotation). If you are lucky enough to get a window seat on the left of the plane (and it is a clear day) you should see spectacular views of the imposing Mount Kinabalu as you fly past. On arrival, you will be transferred to Sepilok and your delightful lodge accommodation near the world-famous Orangutan Sanctuary. Take the afternoon to settle in and enjoy your surroundings before the adventure continues once again tomorrow. [4] => After breakfast, you will visit the Sun Bear Conservation Centre and the famous Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Sanctuary where you will watch a feeding session. The sanctuary is world renowned for its efforts to save this magnificent animal through rehabilitating orphaned orangutans. You will watch a video about the work that is done here before feeding time. The orangutans are able to come and go as they please so there is no guarantee of a sighting, but close encounters are frequent and you must listen to the instructions of the local guides at all times. After lunch, you will experience yet another wildlife encounter that is unique to Borneo; Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary which will allow you to experience these rather bizarre looking monkeys at close quarters. [5] => Today encapsulates the essence of Borneo in terms of nature and wildlife. You will first explore the Rainforest Discovery Centre with a guide. There are some exceptional sights in the reserve and many trails to explore as well as the thrilling canopy walkways, which allow you to get up close to some of the biggest trees you are ever likely to see. It’s a fascinating place. After lunch, you’ll be transferred by road (a ~ 2-hour transfer) to the Kinabatangan River. On arrival at Tanini Kinabatangan, you’ll check-in to your room. Late afternoon, you’ll join your first boat cruise along the river in search of wildlife along the river banks. This evening your guide will accompany you for a night walk in the jungle when the forest takes on a very different appearance. These walks are guided by specialists who seem to have an unfathomable ability for spotting wildlife. You will spend the night in a comfortable, en-suite chalet at the rainforest lodge and will fall asleep listening to the sounds of the jungle. [6] => Before breakfast, you’ll enjoy a rainforest boat trip. There is the potential to see the proboscis monkey, as well as macaques and leaf monkeys, gibbons, the occasional crocodile and possibly a wild orangutan. You may even be some of the lucky few who witness the delightful Borneo pygmy elephant. For lunch today, you will join a cooking class at Tanini Kinabatangan, which is led by some of the local villagers working in the lodge. You will be shown how to prepare a local dish before having the chance to savour the results of your efforts. After lunch, you will also have the opportunity to take part in a Batik painting activity. It’s then time for your second late afternoon river cruise in search of more amazing wildlife. After dinner, you will join a traditional dance class led by the villagers from nearby Kampung Bilit. [7] => After early morning refreshments, you will head back out on the boat for another attempt to spot some of the rainforest’s inhabitants. Upon your return to the lodge, you have the chance to take part in its environmental tree planting programme. The Gomantong Caves are world-famous as the home of the swifts whose nests are harvested annually to make bird’s nest soup. They are also truly spectacular in their own right. The sight of the birds, bats and creepy crawlies that inhabit the caves is definitely something you won’t forget and the scale of these caves is rather awe-inspiring. From Gomantong, you’ll travel to Sandakan and learn about the water village, St. Michael church, War Memorial and Puh Jih Sih temple. It’s now time to check out and head back to Sepilok. [8] => Following transfers to Sandakan Airport, you fly back to Kota Kinabalu, where you will check-in, once again, to your wonderful seafront resort. [9] => If you have never dived before, but fancy giving it a go, then today is your lucky day!  You will enjoy a scuba diving discovery experience (amazing for a non-diver). This will be a truly memorable experience. For those who are qualified divers, you can participate in a leisure dive with our expert team and for those who prefer to stay on the surface, there is snorkelling available. A spectacular array of coral and aquatic life, possibly even sea turtles and stingrays, await you. Both, the leisure dive and the snorkelling are subject to availability locally. [10] => After breakfast, you will explore the villages and spectacular countryside that surrounds Kota Kinabalu by mountain bike. This trip will provide an insight into the daily lives of the local people as well as some stunning scenery. You will travel on front suspension mountain bikes, following a route that your guide will tailor to your group; this may include gravel tracks, quiet country roads and possibly even some jungle routes. Back at your hotel you can enjoy a final evening and reflect on all of the exceptional experiences you have had. Summer activity holiday destinations

In the summer months, many regions offer a wide variety of activity options for all levels. Some of our itineraries include the activity highlights we feel you simply have to try and other holidays are left completely open for you to choose how you wish to experience the destination.

In Gozo for example, we offer you the chance to choose from a range of activities such as sea kayaking, cycling, climbing and hiking. You might want to fill up every minute with exciting activities or you could have a combination of active experiences with relaxing moments such as enjoying the delightful cuisine, exploring the picturesque coastline or delving into the island’s history and culture.

In both the Azores and Madeira, you’ll explore on land and at sea for an all-encompassing experience of these brilliant archipelagos. Activities on these striking islands include walks, cycling and kayaking as well as some optional extras such as canyoning and full day hikes.
