Do I need a high level of fitness for a multi-activity summer holiday?
No. None of our multi-activity holidays require a high level of fitness and we will provide information on the length of each activity as well as its difficulty.
You also don’t need any prior experience of an activity unless we clearly state this is required, as all our activities come with dedicated guides and experts to help teach you the ropes.
Our expert guides are the best in the business and, as ever, your safety always comes first.
Summer activity holiday destinations
In the summer months, many regions offer a wide variety of activity options for all levels. Some of our itineraries include the activity highlights we feel you simply have to try and other holidays are left completely open for you to choose how you wish to experience the destination.
In Gozo for example, we offer you the chance to choose from a range of activities such as sea kayaking, cycling, climbing and hiking. You might want to fill up every minute with exciting activities or you could have a combination of active experiences with relaxing moments such as enjoying the delightful cuisine, exploring the picturesque coastline or delving into the island’s history and culture.
In both the Azores and Madeira, you’ll explore on land and at sea for an all-encompassing experience of these brilliant archipelagos. Activities on these striking islands include walks, cycling and kayaking as well as some optional extras such as canyoning and full day hikes.
Or perhaps you’d like to visit Croatia, where a combination of historic cities and island havens await. There are many different activities on offer to help you explore this wonderful region, including cycling, snorkelling and paddle boarding.
Travel with the experts
Our Artisan Travel Experts know our destinations intimately and will be more than happy to discuss the various activity options with you if you have any questions about our holidays. Our clients’ safety is our primary concern so you can rest assured that you will be travelling in the best possible hands.

[title] => Family Rainforest Adventure Holiday in Costa Rica
[ordering] => 0
[code] => 4020
[intro] => A tiny country that is simply brimming with adventure and natural spectacles, there is a huge amount to be enjoyed in Costa Rica. From tropical greenery and unspoilt beaches to active volcanoes and immense cloud forests, the delights are endless. Learn more about the culture of this unique location while enjoying boat trips, hikes and ziplining – all included in the holiday price.
[description] => The saying ‘Good things come in small packages’ was practically created for Costa Rica.
Despite covering less than 0.05% of the world’s landmass, this wonderful country offers a staggering variety of landscapes: pristine coastline, rainforest, cloud forest, mountain ranges, wetlands, and other aquatic habitats. Another huge attraction of Costa Rica is, of course, the incredible variety of fauna and flora, with some five per cent of the world’s biodiversity, found within its borders.
Our active holiday itinerary has been crafted to ensure that your family gets to enjoy as many of these natural wonders as possible in an active and fun-filled way. During our adventure holiday you will stand in awe at the foot of a volcano, fly through the treetops, and boat through incredible rainforest canals – all activities are included in the cost of the holiday. One of the advantages of the country’s small size is that there are no arduous days full of travel or internal flights in order to enjoy them, as everything is within a manageable distance.
A key highlight of any family holiday to Costa Rica is the fact that you will meet some of the friendliest people on the planet. It has frequently been ranked as one of the happiest countries in the world – from our experience, we can safely say that this is completely true! Studies have determined that locals have the highest level of life satisfaction on Earth. When we asked our friends in Costa Rica if they agreed, they simply replied, “Look around you, who wouldn’t be happy here?”
They couldn’t be more right!

We recommend that you wear walking shoes, hat, sunscreen, and rain jacket.

Tortuguero is one of the most biologically diverse regions in the world, navigating through beautiful rivers, canals, and lagoons. After arrival and time to refresh in your rooms at Pachira Lodge, a family-style lunch will be served at the lodge.
After lunch at your lodge, you discover the local town by boat for a walk and to mingle with the locals. You will visit the Green Sea Turtle Conservancy Museum to learn about the lush tropical environment in which you now find yourselves and their conservation effort to preserve one of the most critical reproductive and spawning sites of the Green Sea Turtle (Chelonia Mydas) in the Western Hemisphere. Tortuguero in Spanish means gathering of turtles.
After returning to the lodge, there will also be some free time to explore or relax around the swimming pool Before a tasty family-style Caribbean dinner.
[3] => After breakfast, you will embark on a guided boat exploration and wildlife observation of the surrounding river waterways and canals in Tortuguero National Park followed by a guided walk. Lunch will be served back at the hotel restaurant at 12.00pm and the afternoon is yours to enjoy how you please. Take a dip in the pool or watch the lush tropical scenery from the comfort of your hammock.
[4] => This morning you will leave your lodge by boat, before travelling inland by coach to the wonderful and lush green scenery of Sarapiquí and your Rainforest camp.
You will stop for lunch en route at a local restaurant and afterwards continue your private transfer to a peach palm plantation inland in Palmitour for a unique insight of an ancient staple food tree of the rain forest cultures in the Americas. This tour is the best way to start the day before returning to enjoy a wholesome country-style breakfast at the lodge and time at leisure to explore the gardens and pool.

The Organic Paradise Tour features an eco-friendly, family endeavour born 25 years ago of the belief that organic farming is the future for humanity and our amazing planet because it is the way to sustain life. The stunning natural beauty of this area in the northern region of Costa Rica inspired us to transform our vision and beliefs into a viable, sustainable rural Agri-tourism concept to minimise disruption of nature’s balance. The farm is devoted to organic agricultural practices of the highest standards, expanding the application of organic techniques in pineapple farming to a variety of other local crops, including cassava, lime, guanabana, and an array of tantalising spices.
Finca Paraíso Orgánico is committed to bringing more employment to the community through our farm operations with Organic Pineapple Sogo, a foundation created for the community operating this diverse agricultural plantation.
Your bilingual guide will show you all the agricultural processes from land preparation, developing plantations, flowering, induction, meristems, and harvest· Reserved for the end of the visit to this organic pineapple plantation is, of course, pineapple tasting.!

This activity package also includes lunch and taxes.
[8] => After savouring your last breakfast in Arenal, check out, and CRT Staff will take you to visit the Tenorio Volcano National Park. The park is filled with many natural wonders, but perhaps the most impressive is the Celeste River. The river gets its spectacular colour from mineral molecules suspended in the water that reflect the blue spectrum of sunlight, and it's impressive to see how the turquoise hue contrasts with the surrounding green forests. The guided walking tour of Tenorio Volcano National Park and Rio Celeste will be the last Caribbean-influenced weather area and a transition area from Tropical Rain Forest to the Tropical Mesoamerican Dry Forest before crossing over to the Pacific Seaboard.

[name] => Tenerife - Active Family Adventure
[title] => Active Family Adventure Holiday to Tenerife
[ordering] => 0
[code] => 4004
[intro] => For families who want more than a typical sun holiday, this trip to Tenerife ticks all the adventurous boxes. You’ll explore the very best of the island’s varying terrain in many different ways; from snorkelling off the coast of relaxing beaches to hiking across volcanic plains.
[description] => Tenerife is well known as a sun-soaked summer holiday hotspot, but beyond its inviting beaches and warm turquoise waters lies an island bursting with adventure just waiting to be explored. This week-long activity holiday is designed to show you and your family a whole new side to Tenerife—one filled with unforgettable experiences, natural beauty, and memories to last a lifetime.
Your adventure begins with a spectacular evening of sunset and stargazing at Mount Teide, Spain’s highest peak. As the sun dips below the horizon, the sky is set ablaze with hues of orange, pink, and indigo. With minimal light pollution, this is one of the world’s best stargazing locations, and your expert guide will help you navigate the constellations twinkling above.
Next, step into the heart of Tenerife’s untouched wilderness with a guided exploration of the Anaga Rainforest. This ancient, emerald-green wonderland is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and home to fairytale-like misty trails, towering laurel trees, and hidden valleys that feel like stepping into another world.
The ocean also holds plenty of treasures, and you’ll get to experience them up close with an incredible morning of snorkelling in the Atlantic. Dive into crystal-clear waters teeming with marine life, where vibrant fish dart between volcanic rock formations, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot a friendly sea turtle gliding by.
Of course, no trip to Tenerife would be complete without encountering its most famous marine residents - whales and dolphins. Board a comfortable boat and set sail on a wildlife-watching excursion, where you’ll have the chance to see playful pods of dolphins dancing in the waves and majestic pilot whales gliding through the water.
And for the ultimate family thrill? Brace yourselves for a day of excitement at Siam Park, one of the world’s most spectacular water parks! Whether you’re racing down gravity-defying slides, floating through the lazy river, or watching the enormous wave pool crash onto the sandy beach, this will be a day filled with laughter and adrenaline-fueled fun.
If water parks aren’t your thing, take a scenic drive through Tenerife’s native pine forests for an unforgettable morning at Forestal Park instead. Here, the adventure begins with a fun initiation circuit, where you’ll learn the ropes - literally! Once you’ve got the hang of it, the real excitement begins as you take on a range of thrilling high ropes challenges and ziplines, including the park’s jaw-dropping 230-metre-long zipline, guaranteed to get your heart racing. After an action-packed morning swinging, climbing, and soaring through the treetops, you’ll unwind with a well-earned picnic lunch, surrounded by the peaceful sights and sounds of the forest. The perfect mix of adrenaline and relaxation in Tenerife’s great outdoors!
Throughout your adventure, you’ll be accompanied by knowledgeable local guides whose passion for their island is infectious. They’ll ensure you experience the very best of Tenerife, sharing fascinating stories, hidden gems, and expert insights along the way. So, forget what you thought you knew about Tenerife. This is more than just a beach holiday - it’s a family adventure bursting with discovery, excitement, and moments you’ll treasure forever.

[0] => Welcome to Tenerife! Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel approximately an hour away.
Check in and settle in for the rest of the day.
[1] => After breakfast, your guide will pick you up from your hotel for a nice walk around Puerto de la Cruz, so you and your family can get to know the local area. The short walk will take you to the old town, around the city centre and to the harbour. Afterwards, you will enjoy a welcome lunch in a local restaurant.
In total, this activity will last around two and a half hours including lunch and you will have some free time in the afternoon.
[2] => Following breakfast in the hotel, you have a free morning to explore.
This afternoon, you’ll head to Mount Teide – the third tallest volcano in the world! Tenerife is known for its bright, clear skies, but its colourful sunsets and starry night skies are on a different level of spectacular.
The incredible views start with your transfer as you drive through the pine forests of Corona Forestal to reach the otherworldly landscape of the UNESCO listed Teide National Park.
Passing through the historical centre of Orotava and emerging above the treeline, you’ll be above a vast sea of clouds. Along the way, you’ll stop to see the highlights and landmarks of this captivating landscape and enjoy scenic viewpoints.
After sundown, the adventure continues underneath the night sky. You’ll head to a prime location for a spot of stargazing and enjoy hot drinks as you watch. On a clear night, you’ll be able to see the Milky Way!
[3] => Today has been left completely free for you to enjoy together as a family as you please.
[4] => Following breakfast, you will travel to Las Americas where you will board your boat and head out onto the water for the day.
You and the family will be keeping an eye out for bottlenose dolphins and pilot whales who live here year-round. You may see other species such as sea turtles too! You’ll also travel to a secluded cove and have some time for a swim.
Lunch will be served on board before the coastal cruise back to Las Americas for a free evening.
[5] => Today, following breakfast, you will take a transfer (approximately 50 minutes) to Radazul beach for a fun filled morning in the water. With two black sandy beaches sheltered by a breakwater and crystal clear water, this is a calm swimming area that is perfect for discovering the underwater world via snorkelling.
Your local guide will give a short safety briefing and will accompany your family to help you spot all the colourful marine life as you snorkel. After the tour, there will be time for more snorkelling or to relax on the beach.
Following your morning in the Atlantic Ocean, you'll visit Anaga Rainforest for a short hike before breaking for lunch at a typical Canary Island restaurant (known as Guanchinche).
You'll return to the hotel this afternoon for a free evening.
[6] => Fill up on breakfast ahead of your adventurous day at either the water park or forest park.
The famous Siam Park boasts thrilling attractions, serene landscapes and architectural wonders. From the relaxing lazy river to the adrenaline surging rapids to the Lost City water playground, the water park offers fun for all the family. The attractions range from meandering rivers and waterfalls, amid tropical fish, to exhilarating free-fall slides. Furthermore, a sand beach with real waves, floating markets, sea lion shows. There is plenty to keep all ages entertained!
If you prefer forest thrills to water spills, then Forestal Park is calling. Located in Tenerife’s native pine forest, this high ropes adventure promises an action-packed morning of swinging, climbing, and ziplining through the trees—including an exhilarating 230-metre zipline ride! After an adrenaline-fueled adventure, you’ll enjoy a relaxing picnic lunch, surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature.
As the sun begins to set on your Tenerife adventure, your final evening is yours to enjoy at your own pace. Why not visit a traditional Canarian restaurant, soak in the breathtaking sunset views, and savour delicious local cuisine—the perfect way to round off an unforgettable family getaway.
[7] => Today it is, unfortunately, time for your family adventure in Tenerife to come to an end. Following breakfast, we will transfer you to the airport for your return flights home. If you have an early flight time, we’ll box up breakfast for you to take with you.

[name] => Malta - Gozo Island Adventure
[title] => Family Activity Holiday On Gozo Island
[ordering] => 0
[code] => 4012
[intro] => Gozo is a stunning Maltese island of coastal and countryside delights which has long been a firm favourite with our families. The price of this holiday includes all activities and you will spend an active week enjoying kayaking, diving, snorkelling, and rock climbing alongside sampling the delicious cuisine of this unique island.
[description] => The island of Gozo is a little-known Mediterranean wonder that is home to one of our most popular family adventures. Just half an hour from Malta by ferry, it showcases an extraordinary natural environment ideal for an activity-filled week away. We have made the most of our local connections and expertise to find the very best locations and activities in and around the island. With group sizes of no more than 24, you will enjoy a highly personalised experience.
All activities are included in the holiday price. You’ll have the chance to go snorkelling and diving at some of the top scuba sites in Europe. The Gozitan cliffs offer excellent spots for rock climbing, while its many inlets are perfect for kayaking, both of which will be on the agenda during your stay.
Based in the northeastern village of Xaghra, you will be close to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Ġgantija Temples, which at 5500 years old are amongst the world’s oldest freestanding structures. Gozo has been occupied by everyone from the Ancient Romans and the Arabs to the French and the British, with evidence of this rich history very much present in its lifestyle, language, and cuisine. The week will be filled with opportunities to learn more about the local way of life first-hand and tasting island delicacies. This makes it ideal for families looking for that perfect mix of activities and culture.
Based at the rustic and welcoming Cornucopia Hotel, you will be within easy walking distance of the main town and will be able to make use of the hotel’s facilities, including its sun-soaked terrace and swimming pool.
*The international health requirements for diving are very strict and we need to be notified of any pre-existing medical/health issues in advance. If a participant has any pre-existing medical/health conditions, a doctor’s certificate will be required stating that they are safe to partake in the activity.

[0] => Upon arrival at the airport, you will be transferred to your accommodation (it takes approximately two hours with a 25-minute ferry crossing between Malta and Gozo). Dinner is not included tonight; the hotel has a fantastic restaurant and there are other options available locally.
Please note that the order of activities is a guide only and they are subject to change upon arrival.
[1] => Discover Scuba Dive (or Try Dive) is an ideal introduction to the world under the sea. You will begin with registration (you will be issued with some paperwork prior to going on holiday you will need to complete). You will then be provided with the full equipment necessary and begin the short course in the classroom to introduce this fantastic activity. A full safety briefing will be given along with plenty of time for questions and answers. The day starts with a practice dive to get you used to the equipment and sensations and then a second dive where hopefully you will encounter some of the wonderful marine life.
Please note: for safety reasons, those aged 8 and 9 will be offered the chance to try a 'Bubble Maker' session. They can experience a shallow dive in pool-like conditions and a second dive up to 2m in a very calm area with no boats. Parents can join their children on this dive as long as they stick to a 2m depth. Those under the age of 8 years old will have the opportunity to snorkel on the surface of the water and view the same vibrant marine life as the other members of the group. For children 8 years and over participation in any dive will be at the guide's discretion.
[2] => Today is designed to give you an insight into Gozo, its people and its traditions. At the heart of the culture lies a very healthy enjoyment of delicious food. We don’t like to give too much away about what today includes, as it is a real treat, but you will most certainly learn about what the locals like to eat and how to cook it. Of course, lunch is included today.
[3] => Gozo’s coastline is irresistible, and once more you will be back out on the water, kayaking on the stunning waters. Following your guide along the coast, you will paddle your ‘sit on top’ kayaks for around two and a half hours with two to three people (children under the age of ten will typically travel with two adults) per craft.
After your exciting morning, the group can enjoy the local beach for some free time to explore and relax. You can spend the afternoon enjoying the beach, swimming, and snorkelling (equipment not provided) and the cooling Mediterranean Sea.
Lunch is not included but there are delicious café options at the beach.
[4] => Today has been left free for you to set your own agenda. Relax by the pool and enjoy the sunshine, head to the beach, take a day trip to Valletta (Malta’s capital) or unwind in a spa. It is entirely up to you. Those wanting to absorb more island culture can wander around the town of Xaghra with its rustic stone buildings and delightful shops selling locally made goods.
An inexpensive hop-on, hop-off bus service can get you quickly around the island should you wish to travel further, taking in more of the island's natural beauty and historic delights. We can also look at arranging E-bike hire on request, please ask one of our Travel Experts.
[5] => Today families will take part in the activity of rock climbing with our local instructors. Amazing Mediterranean vistas await you as well as exciting climbing routes. Once you have reached the top you will be rewarded with wonderful views.
[6] => Today has been left free to do as you wish, either relax at the hotel, explore the local area, or add on some extra activities. Please speak to our Travel Experts for further details.
[7] => Airport transfers will be arranged depending on your individual flight plans and breakfast will be included at the hotel. If you are tempted to stay on for another week, please speak to our Family Travel Experts.

[name] => Madeira - Whales, Dolphins and Volcanic Landscapes
[title] => A Magical Madeira Adventure Holiday For Families
[ordering] => 0
[code] => 4037
[intro] => This seven-night adventure to Madeira includes a variety of activities, which will excite all of the family. Visit the magical volcanic caves of Sao Vicente and swim in the lava pools, or volcanic beach at Seixal. Explore the island by jeep, foot and kayak, as you drive, boat and walk through colour-drenched landscapes and sun-drenched bays. Dolphin and whale watching are the icing on the cake.
[description] => Madeira is the perfect place for families to enjoy a holiday of discovery: warm waters, sun-filled days and exciting activities make this a fantastic place to explore.
You’ll be based in Funchal, the island’s small and fascinating capital and from here you can take part in all sorts of adventures. On your first day, you will explore the island as you enjoy a jeep adventure from one amazing viewpoint to another, over mountains and through valleys and along the winding coastline as you go! Stopping for a walk in the colourful mountains of Madeira, you’ll head to the stunning Balcões viewpoint, which looks out to the island’s central mountain range. From here, you’ll then go for a short walk along one of the island’s many levadas, traversing across the forested hills, filled with emerald green trees and bursting with colourful flowers and bubbling streams.
Moving from land to sea, you’ll have the chance to explore the coves and bays of the island by sea kayak, as you paddle across the beautiful blue sea in search of wildlife and adventure. You’ll then take to the seas again, aboard a RIB in search of marine life. Madeira is renowned for its whale and dolphin watching, so there’s no way we could leave this out during your time here. The boat trip will take you across the waters that surround Madeira and if nature is on your side, you’ll even get the chance to snorkel with the wild dolphins that call these waters home! A truly brilliant experience, this is sure to leave your family with fun-filled, lasting memories.
After the excitement of the ocean, you’ll head deep into the island for a half-day of family-friendly canyoning. It’s a fantastic way to explore the island from another point of view – water slides, refreshing pools and rappels will certainly keep the family entertained!
Back on the road you will explore the Serra D’Água, the dramatic valley dividing the massif from the only plateau on the island. This tour takes you to the lush northwest, where waterfalls melt into the ocean and lava has been shaped into unique pools, perfect for a refreshing swim. You cannot help but appreciate the power of nature in this landscape dominated by ancient forests, but you will also be able to walk alongside the famous man-made channels - called Levada’s – which supply the island’s farms with plentiful water and are the basis for its amazing array of fruit and vegetables.
Finally, you’ll take to the trails as you enjoy an easy biking tour along a wide levada, surrounded by luscious forest; a fantastic way to explore the famous irrigation channels of Madeira!
We offer a variety of hotels across Madeira which not only helps with availability during the summer months but also means you can choose the best option and facilities for your family’s needs. Please see the accommodation section for more on these options.

[0] => Arriving into Funchal, you will be picked up at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Please note that the order and timings of activities listed within the agenda is subject to change; your final itinerary will be provided to you on arrival.
[1] => Canyoning is a fantastic way to experience the island’s landscape from a different perspective and it will no doubt leave your family grinning from ear to ear, as you navigate your way along the stream.
You’ll be kitted out with wet suits and canyoning shoes, with your swimming costume worn underneath. It’s then an uphill walk, followed by a steep path down through the trees to the start point.
It’s the perfect canyon for novices, with a series of easy slides, pool jumps and rappels to enjoy. Our expert local guides have been working in these canyons for years and they know every little foot and hand hold there is, so you’ll be in safe hands throughout.
You’ll be guided through the canyon at a pace suited to the group’s ability, taking in the incredible scenery as you work your way downstream. Filled with trees, plants and colourful flowers, it’s a wonderful place to explore – the canyon is often filled with fennel (funcho in Portuguese), which is where the name Funchal, the island’s capital, comes from.
Please note that children must be over 140cm tall to participate in the canyoning.
[2] => Today it’s time to explore the island by bike. Although we have selected a family-friendly trail which follows a wide and gentle Levada, we do recommend previous experience of cycling and that children be 8 and above and are a minimum 150cm tall for this experience. Please speak to our travel experts if this trip is not a good fit for your family as other options will be available.
You’ll cycle for approximately two hours, as your expert guide leads you through the forest on this easy route which still offers amazing sea views.
Cycling past towering trees and plants bursting with colour, this is another fantastic way to enjoy the stunning flora of Madeira in a wonderful part of the island.
Each activity this week allows you and your family to explore different parts of the island by foot, kayak, bike, boat and jeep, giving you a wonderful, all-encompassing Madeiran experience; hopefully filled with an abundance of family-fuelled fun along the way!
[3] => Your activity today will see you head out on the Atlantic for what will hopefully be one of your most memorable activities: whale watching and snorkelling with dolphins! If luck has been on your side, you may have already seen marine life during your kayaking this morning, but this afternoon’s adventure will be different and more personal in many ways.
You will head out via RIB (Rigid-hulled Inflatable Boat) in search of your aquatic friends. Your onboard marine biologist will tell you about the marine life of the islands while your captain searches for whales and dolphins. The waters that surround the islands are rich with life and throughout the year, 28 different species can be found, including: Atlantic-spotted, bottlenose, risso's and stripped dolphins, as well as pilot, bryde and fin whales.
Hopefully nature will be on your side today and give you the chance to get close to the action and excitement, as the dolphins follow your boat. If the conditions are right, you may also get the chance to join the dolphins in the sea, as you snorkel alongside the boat; a fantastically amazing experience for all of the family. Although you may not get to see the dolphins as close as you would in a marine park, the experience is far superior as you get to see them in their natural environment.
Please note that snorkelling with the dolphins depends on the weather conditions at the time, as well as the dolphins’ behaviour and there is a chance that it might not be possible. Local animal welfare legislation requires participants to keep a hand on the boat at all times. There is also a possibility that not all members of the group will be able to snorkel with the dolphins before they move on, as only 6 people are allowed in the sea at any one time.
[4] => Today you will head out to sea to experience sea kayaking around the coves and bays of the island. This is a great way to see the coastline of Madeira, as you paddle across the deep blue sea. Keep your eyes peeled, as you never know, you might just catch a glimpse of some marine life which can include parrotfish, trumpetfish, turtles and even manta rays.
You will be kayaking for approximately two hours this morning. The kayaks are sit-ons which can accommodate two adults and one child and you will have plenty of time to swim and snorkel in the clear waters of the Garajau Nature Reserve, which is home to a variety of coastal species.
[5] => A full day of excitement and adventure awaits as you explore the northern part of Madeira.
You will be picked up from your hotel this morning and journey into the mountains, through deep ravines, pre-historic forests and picturesque villages.
Following this, you will stop for lunch in a local restaurant (not included) with a chance to experience some of the island’s flavours, then it is on to the natural lava pools at Porto Moniz. The saltwater lava pools were naturally created by volcanic eruptions and have since filled with seawater to create the perfect swimming area, with crystal-clear waters; a wonderfully fun experience for the family!
You will enjoy a walk along one of the near gravity-defying canals that supply water throughout the island, before heading back to your hotel for approximately 5-5:30 pm.
[6] => A jeep expedition is a brilliant way to journey through the mountainous terrain and it will no doubt excite the family as you weave through the ravines and wind along the coastline. The island is filled with natural sights and viewpoints, from stunning plateaus to jagged mountain peaks, it is one big natural wonder.
After a first stop at the bay where the Portuguese landed in 1419/20, in the southeast coast, this tour continues along the ancient royal footpath, where our sight is captured by the geometry of the oldest terraces of the island, along the beaten tracks crossing the indigenous forest. You will be amazed at the isolated rural nature of the villages we will visit. This is a tour rich in culture, with some of the most beautiful landscapes you can set your eyes on and breathtaking trails that will take you from sea level to Madeira’s highest mountains.
Your jeep adventure will last the full day, starting at 9am and finishing at 5pm (approximately). Upon returning to your hotel, why not explore Funchal and eat out at one of the city’s many restaurants tonight.
[7] => Sadly the time has come for you to return home today. After breakfast at your hotel, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight home.

[name] => A Volcanic Wonderland
[title] => Dolphin And Whale Watching Holiday in the Azores Islands
[ordering] => 32
[code] => 5512
[intro] => Experience the best of the Azores with this seven-night holiday on São Miguel Island. Dolphin and whale watching, and venturing underground through wondrous volcanic surroundings are just some of the experiences included.
[description] => Ocean wildlife, volcanic culture, and outdoor activities: this seven-night Azores holiday to the island of São Miguel puts an exotic twist on your typical European getaway.
Marine animals inspire awe in just about everyone, and seeing them in their natural habitat is one experience that is sure to feature on your bucket list. Our itinerary allows you to tick it off three times – you will watch for whales and dolphins from a tour boat and snorkel close to a colourful variety of fish and other underwater fauna when snorkelling* at the islet of Vila Franca.
The rich volcanic heritage of the Azores is something you will be able to enjoy first-hand. You will bathe in a naturally heated spring at the Terra Nostra Botanical Garden. You will also be able to taste a ‘Cozido das Furnas’ stew – an Azorean piece of geothermal gastronomy that puts a twist on the traditional Portuguese ‘cozido’ by cooking it with natural steam.
The extraordinary island environments are perfect settings for activities. You will kayak on the crater lakes of the Sete Cidades Lagoon and cycle in the surrounding area. Slower-paced activities include walking through part of Sao Miguel’s longest lava tunnel and relaxing in the warm Caldeira Velha waterfall.
You will stay in the modern Hotel Canadiano or, if you have upgraded, in São Miguel Park Hotel, Marina Atlântico or the Azor Grand Hotel. All the hotels are located in the coastal town of Ponta Delgada.
*Snorkelling equipment is not provided, so we recommend bringing your own.

On the way, you will stop at various viewpoints to enjoy this beautiful landscape. One of the stops will be at the Vista do Rei, probably the most famous viewpoint of Sao Miguel Island from where you can enjoy the views of the two lakes and the surrounding landscape.
When you reach the lakes, you can cycle over a largely flat ten-kilometre trail, of which ten minutes will be spent moving uphill or you can kayak over the sparkling lake.
A picnic lunch is included today.
Back at the hotel, you can relax before heading out and sampling the local cuisine (not included).
[2] => Breakfast is followed by a morning whale-watching tour. You will usually enjoy the whale watching from a catamaran, however, some trips will be in a RIB boat. If you have a preference, please inform us in advance (restrictions may apply for pregnant women and people with lower back problems).
It is no understatement to say that the Azores are one of the best places in the world for this activity – so much so that everyone from the National Geographic to the BBC has paid visits.
You will receive an in-depth briefing on safety measures and responsible observation prior to heading out on the tour; life vests and waterproofs will be provided (except on the catamaran). Depending on luck, there will be a range of cetaceans that you might see. July and August are good months for spotting beaked and Atlantic whales, as well as striped dolphins. Sperm whales are also known to make an appearance at this time while bottlenose and common dolphins can be seen all year round.
Lunch will be had in Vila Franca do Campo, a pleasant southern town. A refitted fishing boat will then transport you to the splendid islet of Vila Franca, which is a circle of green around a crater lagoon that is open to the sea. Snorkelling equipment is not provided, so we recommend bringing your own if you wish to go in to look at life under the water. Species found here include small red scorpionfish, rainbow wrasses, and Guinea-fowl puffers.
[3] => Learn about the volcanic heritage of the Azores with today’s thematic tour to Furnas. After breakfast, your first stop of the day will be a highlight for tea-lovers. You will be taken to the Gorreana Tea Estates, one of Europe’s oldest remaining tea plantations. In addition to seeing the growing areas, you will have an opportunity to try some of the produce.
You will then head to the Caldeiras das Furnas, where you will see the famous fumaroles and mineral springs. Make sure you try the water from each spring. You might notice the variety in tastes because of the different minerals present.
At lunch, you will get to try ‘Cozido das Furnas’, the classic Portuguese ‘cozido’ stew of slow-cooked meats and vegetables with an Azorean twist: preparation using natural steam from the ground.
Following that, there will be a look around the exceptional Terra Nostra Garden. This visit will finish with the chance to get into the iron-rich waters of a geothermal pool, which has a soothing temperature between 35°C to 40°C. (Please take old swimming costumes as the mineral water will stain them a light brown colour).
[4] => We have left today free for you to spend as you please. Why not explore the harbour area, or choose an additional activity from our ‘personalise’ section.
[5] => Today, you will enjoy amazing views of Lagoa do Fogo, the shimmering ‘Lake of Fire.’ Lagoa do Fogo is part of a marvellous natural reserve that stuns all with its beauty and the lake is one of the most beautiful lakes on the island.
Travelling via minibus will enable you to visit a viewpoint high above the vivid blue waters and then descend to the lake itself, stopping to bathe in a thermal pool en route. You can also visit the Salto do Cabrito waterfall – although it should be noted this can only be done on foot.
[6] => Following breakfast, you have a free day to see more of São Miguel, also known as “The Green Island”.
You could remain in the area and explore Ponta Delgada on foot or book an excursion locally.
[7] => After a final breakfast at your hotel, you will be transferred to João Paulo II Airport to catch your direct flight home.

[name] => Island Wildlife and Nature
[title] => Active Wildlife Week Holiday In Madeira
[ordering] => 33
[code] => 5524
[intro] => Madeira is a haven for marine life with its surrounding waters home to whales and dolphins. The island itself is brimming with natural wonder and amazement. This seven-night tour takes you from land to sea, searching for wildlife and discovering the luscious forests and towering peaks of Madeira.
[description] => The landscape of Madeira is simply stunning and for such a small island, it has a huge variety of scenery. Towering mountain peaks covered in thick, green forests are home to a wealth of flora and fauna and the terraced hillsides are packed with colourful flowers and blooming fruit trees.
The Atlantic Ocean wraps around the Madeiran archipelago and the Gulf Stream makes the sea warm and pleasant and also a perfect year-round home for all sorts of marine life. Bottlenose and Atlantic-spotted dolphins, as well as humpback and short-finned pilot whales, are often found here in abundance, making it a wildlife lover’s paradise.
This itinerary has been designed for you to explore as much of Madeira as possible and to maximise your chances of seeing wildlife on land and sea. You’ll enjoy a tour of both the east and west parts of the island, travelling along the winding coastline, through the deep ravines and across the high, jagged mountain peaks. The sub-tropical climate has created beautiful forests of emerald green, filled with flowing rivers and streams and enchanting Levada, which are just asking to be explored and enjoyed. From the towering mountain peaks, you’ll enjoy splendid views of the landscape beyond and the beautiful blue ocean below.
Thanks to its position in the Atlantic, Madeira enjoys warm, comfortable summers and mild winters. In fact, during most months of the year, you can enjoy the sub-tropical climate of Madeira in comfort, with average highs of 16-18°C from December to February and 18-23°C in the spring, summer and autumn, it is a fantastic place to explore across the seasons.
After exploring the island by road, you’ll take part in a boat trip to the dramatic Desertas Islands, which are a haven for wildlife, including a variety of birds and a monk seal colony. You’ll also get to enjoy a whale and dolphin watching cruise aboard a small boat and, if you are in luck, you’ll even have the chance to snorkel with the wild dolphins as they swim in the waters below; a truly magical experience like no other.
Back on land, a guided walk along the Levada do Rei will take you through the forests and terraces that surround the beautiful valley of Sao Jorge. Walking through ancient laurel forest, keep your eyes peeled for local wildlife as you head towards a gorgeous waterfall and savour the beautiful scenery of this stunning island.

[0] => You will be met at Funchal Airport and transferred to your hotel, the Castanheiro Boutique Hotel, which is located in Funchal’s charming historic Old Town and surrounded by wonderful restaurants and shops.
For dinner, why not head to one of the many fantastic restaurants that are within easy reach of your hotel.
Changes to the itinerary: very occasionally, the itinerary and/or duration of activities may change according to local conditions, events or guest preferences. Decisions will be based first and foremost on your safety and comfort.
[1] => The activities included in your itinerary are all group-based, with a focus on island exploration and discovery, so it is with that in mind that you will set out for a day of exciting adventure with your expert guide leading the way. Our guides know Madeira from top to bottom, so you’re sure to come away with an array of facts from your day of adventure.
From Funchal, you will follow the winding road up towards Pico do Arieiro, into the heart of the Madeiran mountains. If the weather is clear, hopefully, you will be treated to clear views of the island below and the glittering expanse of the Atlantic Ocean. Driving on to Ribeiro Frio, this charming village is nestled in amongst luscious forest and there is a charming trout hatchery, the products of which you will no doubt see swimming along the island’s levadas!
From Ribeiro Frio, you can enjoy a short walk to the magnificent Balcoes viewpoint, where you can savour the landscape of rugged peaks and jagged mountain ridges, coated in dense forest. Heading down from the mountains, you’ll pass through Santana, where you can see the traditional thatched roof houses of Madeira and then it is on the enjoy a three-course lunch in one of the most spectacular restaurant locations imaginable. Situated atop gigantic sea cliffs, the restaurant looks out towards the sea and the along the dramatic coastline. Sample some local Madeiran wine from the hotel’s vineyards before heading back to Funchal via Porto da Cruz.
[2] => Today you will be transferred a short distance to Funchal’s harbour where you will embark on a boat trip to the mysterious Desertas Islands. Setting sail at approximately 10 am, you will cruise along the seas in a traditional wooden gullet with covered seating and standing space on deck.
As the name suggests, the islands are deserted, however, they are a haven for birds, seals and other wildlife. Approaching by sea, the islands gradually loom into focus and the towering cliffs create an imposing vision, which makes you feel as if you are entering the Lost World.
A colony of monk seals call these islands home and hopefully, you will get to see whales and dolphins as you make the crossing from Madeira. Birds such as shearwaters, petrels, terns, buzzards and canaries flock to these islands and nest on the tall cliffs and barren ground and the skies are filled with their calls as they fly through the air.
After sailing past the colourful rock formations and enchanting coves, you will anchor in a secluded bay where you will have the chance to relax on the deck or swim in the sea. Following this, lunch will be served on board. You will then go ashore and enjoy a guided tour of the area before you head back to Funchal, arriving at approximately 6 pm.
[3] => After a day of maritime exploration, today you will stay on land as you explore the western part of Madeira by jeep.
This full day tour will take you from Funchal along the coast via the charming towns of Ribeira Brava and Ponta do Sol before climbing up into the mountains of the island’s interior. You will enjoy an invigorating off road tour leading to the village of Canhas and then up onto the incredible Paul de Serra plateau. Here you will experience stunning views over the serene landscape. Atop the plateau you are so high that clouds often drift over the roads. You will have the option of taking a 20 minute Levada walk here also.
Descending from the plateau you will drive through magical Laurel forests, which are brimming with colourful plant life, and reach the coast at Porto Moniz and Seixal, famous for their natural swimming pools formed by cooled lava during Madeira’s volcanic past. Here you will enjoy a picnic lunch and have the chance for a swim.
Your route back to Funchal will take you via the caves of Sao Vicente and the scenic Serra d’Agua, before being dropped at your hotel in the early evening.
[4] => Today is hopefully going to be a wildlife experience like no other, as you set off this morning in search of whales and dolphins.
Following breakfast, you will head out into the Atlantic in search for marine life on a tour lasting approximately two hours. The waters that surround Madeira are teeming with species, including whales and dolphins, so hopefully, luck will be on your side today.
You will sail aboard a RIB (Rigid-hulled Inflatable Boat), or small catamaran and your expert captain will navigate the seas as your onboard marine biologist tells you about life in the Atlantic. Bottlenose and Atlantic-spotted dolphins are two of the most common species here and often they enjoy swimming alongside boats as you cut through the waves. Humpback, short-finned, pilot and sperm whales are known to live in these waters and perhaps you’ll spot one of these as you cruise through the seas.
If the conditions are right, you will also be given the chance to join the dolphins in the sea as you snorkel alongside the boat. Although the dolphins may not swim as close to you as you would expect in a marine park, seeing them in the wild is an amazing experience and sure to create lifelong memories.
You will return to your hotel to enjoy an afternoon of relaxation or city exploration.
[5] => The Levadas of Madeira criss-cross the island travelling from the mountain tops down to the terraces, fields and villages below.
In the 15th Century, settlers on Madeira began cultivating the land, creating terraces and designing irrigation channels to bring the water down to their crops and by the early 1900s, there were about 200 levadas across the island.
During the mid-90s, the State implemented a large construction project to distribute the water more widely and there are now over 1350 miles of levadas on the island. Many of these can be enjoyed on foot as you walk alongside, marvelling at the spectacular views, wildflowers and luscious forests.
After breakfast this morning, you will be transferred to the northern part of the island to enjoy the Levada do Rei. This levada starts in Sao Jorge, journeying through thick laurel forest (designated as a World Heritage Site) and then opening up to panoramic views of the farmlands below. Rich in biodiversity, you will see a variety of trees, wildflowers and shrubs, as you venture along this fascinating path. Along the way, there are a few tunnels to travel through, so please bring along a small pocket torch and do mind your head as you go.
Arriving at the source of the levada, Ribeiro Bonito, you will enjoy a picnic lunch and savour the beautiful tranquillity of this wonderful location.
The walk will last for approximately three and a half hours, encompassing a round trip of roughly 6.3 miles (shorter, less strenuous levada walks are available on request). Due to the nature of the levada, in some places, there are steep drops which should be navigated with care. Please bring along suitable footwear (walking shoes or boots).
Returning to the hotel in the early evening, you will be able to relax and unwind.
[6] => Today has been left free to you enjoy as you wish. You can choose to simply relax and unwind in the hotel’s rooftop pool, or perhaps amble into Funchal to explore the markets and fascinating galleries and museums. There are a huge variety of cafes and restaurants, so you’re sure to find something to tickle your taste buds.
Alternatively, if you would like to have a guided tour of Funchal’s Old Town, or enjoy a walk to the stunning Ponta de Sao Lourenco peninsula, this can be arranged. Please see the ‘Personalise’ tab for full details.
[7] => After breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred back to the airport for your flight home.

[0] => You will be collected at Malta International Airport (Luqa) for the two-hour transfer to your hotel in Gozo. The transfer includes a taxi to the ferry port for the 25-minute crossing and another taxi to your comfortable hotel.
Once you’re all settled in, there will be an introductory meeting with the local team and a welcome meal in the hotel restaurant.
[1] => Following breakfast each day, you will choose how you would like to spend your time on this spectacular island.
We have a range of half day activities on offer in our ‘Personalise’ tab. Click for more details on the remarkable ways you can explore Gozo.
As each activity lasts approximately half a day (unless you opt to have two Discover Scuba dives) you’ll either have your mornings or afternoons free as well as your evenings. History-lovers may want to see some of the world’s oldest free-standing structures at Ġgantija and explore the historic capital, Victoria. We thoroughly recommend trying as much of the local cuisine as possible. For a really special evening why not visit the west side of the island to Dwejra bay for a sunset that rarely fails to disappoint?
[2] => Unfortunately, it’s time for your Gozo activity short break to come to an end. Depending on your flight time, you’ll either enjoy breakfast in the restaurant or it will be boxed up to take to the airport. You will then be transferred back to Malta International Airport (Luqa).

[name] => A Three Island Tour
[title] => A Tour Of The Azores Islands
[ordering] => 47
[code] => 5514
[intro] => Spend ten nights travelling around the Azores island ‘triangle’ of Faial, São Jorge and Pico. Guided day tours will show you all the highlights, from the great volcanic Caldeira crater to the forested slopes and waterfalls of Sao Jorge and Europe’s only coffee plantation. You could also add further land and water-based activities to complete your stay.
[description] => Situated in the centre of the Azores archipelago, the islands of Faial, São Jorge, and Pico make a triangle rich in natural beauty and local culture. This ten-night holiday gives you a full introduction to the region, with a few nights in each location and visits to the prime attractions.
On a tour of Faial, you will see the mighty volcanic crater of Caldeira which rises above the island. There will be a trip to the sea-facing Capelinhos volcano and the iconic Ponta dos Capelinhos lighthouse which stands below. While exploring Sao Jorge, you can look forward to the greenery of Sete Fontes Forest Park and the picture-perfect viewpoints of Fajã dos Cubres and Fajã do Ouvidor, as well as a series of welcoming local villages with handicrafts and traditional cooking.
On Pico, your guides will showcase the best the island has to offer. You will visit Portugal's longest lava tube which is over 3 miles long, and witness rich bird and plant life and stunning views of the ocean and neighbouring islands.
The natural environment of the Azores makes it perfect for outdoor activities, so we have included a scenic hike to Caldeira do Santo Cristo. You can also add additional Faial-based hikes to your itinerary – these include a walk around the Caldeira crater and a journey along the Levada aqueduct route. Please see the ‘Personalise’ section for more information.
You can also book to go whale and dolphin watching – a must-try activity in this part of the world, which is famed for its marine mammal life. Our optional activity selection also features thrilling canyoning and sea kayaking trips – more information can be found in the ‘Personalise’ section.
You will travel between the islands by ferry, taking in ocean vistas as you go. Throughout the trip, your accommodation will be in hotels based on or close to the coast, adding an Atlantic touch to your stay.

[0] => On arrival, you will meet your driver and transferred to Internacional Azores Boutique Hotel, which faces the Atlantic waters. This evening is left free to allow you some time to settle in. Once you’ve checked in, why not head to one of the nearby restaurants for a pleasant seaside dinner?
[1] => After your first Azorean breakfast, you will be treated to a day tour of Faial by minibus or van (depending on the group size). Your guide will take you to the volcanic Caldeira, an immense crater from which you can look out to the ocean and admire the neighbouring Pico Island.
A trip will also be made to the volcano of Capelinhos on the tip of the Capelo peninsula, as well as to the famous Ponta dos Capelinhos lighthouse and the volcano information centre that sits at its feet. See the newest section of Faial Island, its dark, rocky terrain was formed in 1957 during an eruption. Lunch is included today.
Returning to your hotel, you can freshen up before heading out for dinner.
[2] => Having had breakfast, you will be transferred to the harbour for a ferry ride to São Jorge via Pico Island (ferry departs at around 9 am - time is subject to change and takes approximately 50 minutes). Have your cameras at the ready for snapshots of the Atlantic as you make your way across.
After being taken to your hotel and checking in, you can get straight to island activities. Abseil down waterfalls and slide along streams during a session of canyoning or you can take numerous hikes, in the area, and enjoy all the island has to offer. All these optional activities can be booked with us in advance – please see the ‘Personalise’ section for more information.
You will either stay at Hotel São Jorge Garden or can upgrade to an apartment at Cantinho das Buganvilias. Please see the ‘Accommodation’ section and speak to our Travel Experts to find out more.
[3] => Breakfast leads into a day tour of São Jorge (either by van or minibus - depending on the group size), featuring several of its most prominent sites. Marvel at the handicraft work of Ribeira do Nabo before continuing to the welcoming villages of Urzelina and Manadas. A stop will be made at the eighteenth-century Santa Barbara Church before breaking for lunch in a Calheta village restaurant.
You will then spend the afternoon being shown the pretty parish of Ribeira Seca and the coffee plantation of Fajã dos Vimes. This comprehensive tour also includes trips to the viewpoints of Fajã dos Cubres and Fajã do Ouvidor, not to mention the Sete Fontes Forest Park with its splendid natural sights.
You can finish off the day by visiting a local restaurant or trying your hotel’s cuisine.
[4] => Today you'll have two options available for you as you explore Caldeira do Santo Cristo.
This area is stunning and offers spectacular coastal views and exotic flora and fauna.
The first option is a truly rewarding 10km walk. After a transfer of around 45 minutes you will begin you walk at a height of 700m on the Serra do Topo hillside. The route is initially steep as you descend (so this is ideal is best suited to regular walkers as walking poles and sturdy boots are recommended) but the views are well worth it and the gradient does become more gentle. When you reach the Caldeira do Santo Cristo you can take a dip in the lagoon and enjoy a picnic lunch as you will have passed the 6km mark. The lagoon is formed by a natural sea wall of volcanic rock. From here is it a further 4km to Fajã dos Cubres, where the walk ends. Fajã translates as ‘strip of land’ and you will see that this location is aptly named as it is a small strip of flat land with the peaks on one side and the sea on the other.
Option two is a relaxed walk from Fajã dos Cubres to Caldeira do Santo Cristo which is much flatter (100m in elevation approximately) and covers a total of 8km (4km each way). Lunch and swimming at Caldeira are both included.
Please let our Travel Experts know your preferred option at the time of booking. Minimum group size for both walking options is 2 people.
[5] => After breakfast, you will be taken to the harbour for the ferry to Pico Island, once again being treated to beautiful views of the water. The ferry ride will take approximately 50 minutes in total, following which you will be transferred to your hotel (approximately 30 minutes).
Please note that depending on the availability and travel day the ferry will either depart in the afternoon or in the evening.
[6] => Breakfast will be followed by a tour of Pico Island.
Your trip today will take you to the island's central plateau where you will experience beautiful views of the ocean and the volcanic origins of the island What was once a hostile volcanic hotspot is now a celebration of biodiversity with hundreds of native plant species now making it their home. Enjoy panoramic views from Pico da Urze along the way.
In the afternoon, after a delightful picnic lunch, we will visit the Casa dos Vulcões. This fascinating centre offers an immersive experience into the volcanic activity of the Azores. You can expect interactive exhibits, detailed explanations of volcanic formations, and the opportunity to learn about the region’s geological history. The visit provides a comprehensive understanding of how volcanoes have shaped the beautiful landscape around us. Drop off at Madalena at the end of the tour.
[7] => With breakfast done, you can spend a full day in the Azores trying out more exciting optional activities. The archipelago is internationally famed as a site for whales and dolphins, and no visit to this part of the world is complete without a trip to spot them in the wild. Try a stunning whale and dolphin watching tour and feel the thrill of seeing these majestic animals in their natural habitat. Even better, you can book to swim with dolphins and get a closer experience. Please see the ‘Personalise’ section for more information.
[8] => Following breakfast, it’s time to head out on the beautiful waters again for your ferry ride back to Faial. The crossing takes approximately 30 minutes and is a brilliant vantage point to admire the islands from. Once you arrive at the island, you will be transferred to your hotel.
After checking in, you’ll have a free afternoon to spend as you please. See our ‘Personalise’ tab for more information or talk to one of our Travel Experts to discuss the best ways to fill your time.
[9] => With breakfast finished, you will have the day free. You might like to explore more of Horta or to simply unwind in the hotel Jacuzzi. Better still, you can continue your adventures on Faial by booking an optional half-day or a full day hike on one of the island’s scenic routes. You can return to the Caldeira and walk around its rim or follow the old Levada aqueduct system ringed by greenery. Please see the ‘Personalise’ section for more information.
[10] => After a last Azorean breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your journey home.
