Day 1 Arrival in Lapland
Upon arrival at the airport you will be transferred to your accommodation in Iso-Syöte.
The transfer takes you through the pristine wilderness of the Syöte National Park. In the summer the landscape is filled with flowers and berries which thrive in the long hours of daylight and mild temperatures. There is also a strong chance of seeing reindeer meandering between trees and along the sides of the road as you make your way up the fell.
On arrival you will be able to settle into your accommodation and enjoy a welcome dinner.
Day 2 Canoeing on the Pärjänjoki River
This morning's breakfast will be served in the hotel's wonderful panoramic restaurant.
Your first activity will be a canoe trip on the Pärjänjoki River, travelling two people per canoe. There is no need for any previous experience as the guides will give full instructions and provide you with all the necessary equipment. The pace will be gentle as you paddle along the calm waters, with some small rapids to add a little excitement! As you journey onwards you will stop to enjoy a campfire lunch. This provides a fabulous introduction to Finland's great outdoors.
Upon your return to the hotel this afternoon there will be time to relax and enjoy the hotel's sauna and swimming pool, or alternatively you may want to take a walk and explore independently (you should always consult the hotel to obtain maps and route details before any independent exploration).
Day 3 Nordic walking
Today you will explore on foot, as you enjoy a Nordic walking trip through the surrounding forests.
On your walk you will use Nordic walking poles to aid you, a hugely popular activity here in Finland (and increasingly in the UK) and much enjoyed in the summer in lieu of cross-country skiing. The pace will be leisurely and you can choose your walking speed accordingly. As well as being a fun way to travel, Nordic walking also uses around 90% of the body's muscles, so it is exceptionally good for you.
The guide will lead the way, pointing out areas of interest and the local wildlife and scenery. At this time of year there is plenty to see as you walk through the trees.
This afternoon you will have free time to enjoy the sauna or swimming pool and appreciate the lengthy summer day. Alternatively, there are additional activities that we can book for you including river tubing or zip lining. Details of the options can be found in the 'personalise' section of the holiday page.
Day 4 Overnight at the sled dog centre
This experience offers a unique glimpse into the sled dogs that live and work in Northern Finland as you spend the night at a nearby sled dog centre.
Husky sledding is one of the most popular activities in this region during the winter and in the summer the dogs still need exercise and keep to a training programme, this is where you come in.
Upon arrival you will be welcomed by one of the mushers, who will give you a tour and introduce you to the eager huskies. There may also be some adorable puppies at this time of year!
Your task is to help with the dogs' summer training and enjoy a walk with them. With one husky per person, your guide will lead the way through the trees on a hike which will cover around 12km. There will be a break for lunch by a campfire and time to take in the beauty of the forest.
In the afternoon you will return to the husky farm where you can enjoy the sauna.
Dinner will be served around a campfire – an excellent Finnish experience and you will spend the night here in private rooms with shared bathroom/toilet facilities.
Day 5 Free Day
Today you will enjoy a relaxed morning at the husky farm, enjoying the summer morning and beautiful natural scenery. You will enjoy coffee around the campfire and bid farewell to your huskies before transferring back to Iso-Syöte.
The rest of the day is at your leisure. You can relax in the accommodation and enjoy the swimming pool. Alternatively you can again book additional activities in advance such as visiting the nearby Ranua Wildlife Park which is home to polar bears, brown bears, wolves, lynx foxes, elk and more. Details can be found in the 'personalise' section of the holiday page.
Day 6 Fishing
On your final full day at Iso-Syöte you will try your hand at fishing in one of the many streams and rivers which meander through the area. This sport is one of the most popular in Finland and the area is renowned for it.
The guides will pack the equipment and transfer you to a carefully chosen spot ( a short hike may be required). You will be given full instructions before you cast your line.
Fishing does require patience but the rewards can be very satisfying. Even if you are unlucky in your pursuit, this remains a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend time in the Finnish wilds.
Day 7 Departure
After a final breakfast in the panorama restaurant you will bid farewell to the beautiful fells as you are transferred to the airport for your flights home.
