Husky Expeditions (Overnight)
Dog sledding is one of those activities that conjures images of adventure, triumph and exploration.
Driving your own team of loyal and eager huskies across the Arctic wilderness is a dream for many. Whilst a large number of our winter holidays include half and full day dog sled adventures, we know that for some people this simply is not enough.
A lot of guests who have been on one of our multi-activity holidays and have experienced the delights of a husky safari, come back for more. The sense of freedom and the connection between the musher and their dogs is something that has to be experienced to be fully understood. It can be addictive.
With years of experience of operating in the northern wilds, we have met some of the true legends of dog sled racing and have been lucky enough to uncover those people who are able to offer our guests the best dog sledding experiences possible.
We have multi-day expeditions (lasting between 2 and 5 days), as well as holidays which culminate in an overnight safari at the end of the week. We cater for all levels of adventurer, from those who wish to simply experience it for a night, to those who want the real challenge of a 5 day expedition.
During all of our husky safari holidays you will get real hands on experience, by taking responsibility for looking after the dogs; feeding them and ensuring their comfort is paramount. This all helps to create the bond that is required for a successful partnership.Read more
In nearly all cases, you will spend at least one night in wilderness accommodation, typically in cabins built deep in the wilds and catering specifically to those who venture out on adventures such as these. They are simple and basic (in most cases with no running water or electricity) but all are cosy and provide a warming sanctuary for you and your teams. Your expert guides will prepare evening meals on an open fire and you will get to enjoy a much simpler and less complicated life during your time on the trail – getting back to basics can be the best form of escapism.
You need to have a reasonable level of fitness and a thirst for adventure to fully enjoy these safaris. For some of the holidays, prior experience of dog sledding is recommended but for others a sense of adventure and humor are the main pre requisites – our travel experts will be happy to advise.
No matter which you choose, all of our dog sledding trips have been hand-crafted using the passion of expert mushers and their desire to share their experience and the joy of dogsledding with guests.
