Husky Expeditions (Overnight)
The ultimate dog sledding experience
Dog sledding is an Arctic activity that conjures up images of adventure, triumph and exploration. Driving your own team of loyal and eager sled dogs across the snowy wilderness is a dream for many of our guests, which is why we include this bucket-list experience in the majority of our winter holidays.
However, from our extensive experience, we know that a half or full day dog sledding adventure is simply not enough for some travellers. Many of our guests who have previously encountered the delights of a dog sled safari want to come back for more. The sense of freedom and the connection between the musher and their loyal team of dogs is something that has to be experienced to be fully understood, and it can be seriously addictive.
That’s why we offer multi-day expeditions that last between 2 and 5 days, as well as holidays which culminate in an overnight safari. We cater for all levels of adventurer, from those who wish to experience an overnight dog sledding tour, to those who want the real challenge of a 5-day expedition.Read more
An authentic experience
During all of our dog sledding holidays, you will get a full safety briefing from an expert guide before the real hands-on experience begins. You will take responsibility for looking after the dogs, feeding them and ensuring their comfort. This all helps to create the bond that is required for a successful dog sledding team and is sure to enhance your wilderness experience.
With years of operating in the northern wilds, we have met some of the legends of dog sled racing and have been lucky enough to uncover those people who are able to offer our guests the best, and most authentic, dog sledding experience possible.
What to expect from a multi-day dog sledding experience?
In nearly all cases, you will spend at least one night in wilderness accommodation. Typically, these are cabins built deep in the wilds and cater specifically to those who venture out on adventures like these.
The cabins are simple and basic, often with no running water or electricity, but are all a cosy and warming sanctuary for you and your teams.
Your expert guides will prepare evening meals on an open fire with your help and you will get to enjoy a much simpler and less complicated life during your time on the trail. Getting back to basics is one of the best forms of escapism.
You need to have a reasonable level of fitness and a thirst for adventure to fully enjoy these safaris. For some holidays, prior experience of dog sledding is recommended but for others, simply bring a sense of adventure and humour. Our Artisan Travel Experts will be happy to advise you on whether you need to have experience in dog sledding prior to booking your overnight excursion.
No matter which you choose, all of our dog sledding trips have been hand-crafted using the passion of expert mushers and their desire to share their experience and the joy of dog sledding with our guests.
