[0] => Today you will arrive at Tromsø Airport to start your Northern Norway adventure. You will take the airport express shuttle to your hotel, just 15 minutes away and in the heart of the city, known as the ‘Paris of the North’. We recommend walking around the city and eating at one of the many restaurants on offer before coming back to the hotel and heading to the 11th floor for incredible views on the sky bar.
[1] => Today following breakfast, you will check out of your hotel and take the airport express shuttle back to the airport to pick up your car for the week. You can pick up your car at any time so if you would like to explore Tromsø first there are plenty of activities on offer. We recommend visiting the Polar Park - the world’s northernmost park.
Once you have your car, you will make your way to Narvik with Norway’s stunning scenery unveiling itself at every turn.
Upon arrival, you will check into your hotel, which is one of Northern Norway’s tallest buildings. The sky bar on the 15th floor gives you the best views of the surrounding mountains and fjords, and is the perfect spot to enjoy the Midnight Sun.
[2] => After breakfast, you will check out of your hotel and can either start your drive immediately or spend some time in Narvik. You could visit the insightful war museum or take the cable car for panoramic views of the deep fjords and stunning mountains.
Today you will be driving to Svolvær, the largest town in the beautiful Lofoten Islands.
Upon your arrival, you will check into your unique accommodation the fisherman’s cabins at Svinøya Rorbuer. These traditional cabins are situated right on the water and have been beautifully restored and converted into comfortable and cosy lodging - perfect for experiencing the authentic Lofoten lifestyle.
You will be on picturesque island of Svinøya, just a short walk from Svolvær's charming town centre and home to a range of restaurants, cafes, and galleries. You could also book onto an activity to experience the local nature and wildlife. You could take a rib boat safari to see the sea eagles in some of the most awe-inspiring nature in the region. If you’d prefer to stay on land, you could experience an Icelanic horse ride along white sandy beaches and under the Midnight Sun. Speak to one of our travel advisors to book additional activities onto your trip.
[3] => Svolvær is the gateway to the stunning Lofoten Islands and you can use it is a jumping off point for a myriad of activities. Whether you take a boat trip to Trollfjord, a narrow and dramatic fjord that's surrounded by towering mountains and frequented by seals and sea eagles.
Or you can venture further afield to the pretty fishing villages of Kabelvåg or Henningsvær or the excellent Viking museum at Borg.
This evening we would recommend dining at oneone of Svolvær's many excellent restaurants. Lofoten is known for its fresh seafood, so be sure to try some of the local dishes, such as cod tongue or stockfish.
[4] => Today following breakfast, you will embark on your longest drive of the trip. You will drive around 380 km, including two ferry rides which will take you around 6-7 hours. There is another route you can take to avoid the ferry crossing, however we feel it misses some of the many memorable sights along the way!
Upon arrival at Senja, you will be greeted by this idyllic Norwegian fishing village as you make your way to the hotel surrounded by dramatic mountains and beautiful countryside. We recommend eating in the hotel’s restaurant to try delicious local food with stunning views.
[5] => Today, after breakfast, you have the day to soak up Senja. You could stay in town and try beer tasting or you could get up close to the beautiful surroundings on a guided kayaking tour on crystal-clear blue lakes.
For a truly unique activity, you could try body rafting in an Arctic stream. You will wear a survival suit to ensure you stay warm as you float in the stream and move with the current.
To book on one of these activities or to learn about what else you can do during your stay, please talk to our travel advisors about the activities available.
[6] => Following breakfast, you will check out of your hotel and make your way back to Tromsø where you have more time to explore this bustling city.
Locals recommend the Fjellparkeringen car park located about 300 metres from the hotel (local fees apply).
[7] => Today following breakfast, it’s unfortunately time for your Norwegian adventure to come to an end. You will check out of your hotel and take your car back to the airport before boarding your flight home.

[title] => The Midnight Sun
[alias] => midnight-sun
[note] =>
[description] => What is the Midnight Sun?
The Midnight Sun is essentially where the sun does not set below the horizon, causing 24 hours of daylight. This is due to the tilt in the world’s axis which makes the North Pole face towards the sun in the summer.
The effect of the Midnight Sun is, of course, longer days. People in this region take full advantage with festivals, barbeques and summer activities such as kayaking and hiking. It is said that those who live in these regions have more energy during the months of the Midnight Sun and can take the time to appreciate the evenings filled with warm light and long shadows.
Another benefit of the Midnight Sun is that it makes even the most remote regions greener. The flora and fauna are given an energy boost which leads to a growth of delicious fruits such as cloudberries and lingonberries.
When does the Midnight Sun occur?
Within the Arctic Circle, this natural occurrence is visible from around the 12th June to 1st July, with a greater date range the further north you travel. In the northernmost inhabited region of Europe, the Svalbard Archipelago does not experience a sunset from around the 19th April to the 23rd August.

[description] => Active itineraries for experiences of a lifetime
Experiencing a destination in an active way can offer a unique perspective and help create some unforgettable memories at the same time.
Through our sister company, Activities Abroad which specialises in family activity holidays, we have accrued over a decade of experience working with some of the world’s best activity providers. We have used this knowledge and connections with our network of trusted partners to design some outstanding active itineraries here at Artisan Travel too.

Do I need a high level of fitness for a multi-activity summer holiday?
No. None of our multi-activity holidays require a high level of fitness and we will provide information on the length of each activity as well as its difficulty.
You also don’t need any prior experience of an activity unless we clearly state this is required, as all our activities come with dedicated guides and experts to help teach you the ropes.
Our expert guides are the best in the business and, as ever, your safety always comes first.
Summer activity holiday destinations
In the summer months, many regions offer a wide variety of activity options for all levels. Some of our itineraries include the activity highlights we feel you simply have to try and other holidays are left completely open for you to choose how you wish to experience the destination.
In Gozo for example, we offer you the chance to choose from a range of activities such as sea kayaking, cycling, climbing and hiking. You might want to fill up every minute with exciting activities or you could have a combination of active experiences with relaxing moments such as enjoying the delightful cuisine, exploring the picturesque coastline or delving into the island’s history and culture.
In both the Azores and Madeira, you’ll explore on land and at sea for an all-encompassing experience of these brilliant archipelagos. Activities on these striking islands include walks, cycling and kayaking as well as some optional extras such as canyoning and full day hikes.
Or perhaps you’d like to visit Croatia, where a combination of historic cities and island havens await. There are many different activities on offer to help you explore this wonderful region, including cycling, snorkelling and paddle boarding.
Travel with the experts
Our Artisan Travel Experts know our destinations intimately and will be more than happy to discuss the various activity options with you if you have any questions about our holidays. Our clients’ safety is our primary concern so you can rest assured that you will be travelling in the best possible hands.

Local expert photographers
Utilising our local expert photographers, we have crafted tours that enable you to enjoy exceptional experiences whilst learning some specialist photographic techniques. Our guides know all the tricks required for the conditions in their region and can offer a lot of advice on how to overcome the challenges presented by the destination.
The best of the location
The beauty of working with local guides and experts is that their knowledge allows you to capture scenes that elude the majority of visiting photographers. Our guides will take you to the most scenic spots at the best time of day, as well as the hidden gems that only the locals know about.
Where can you go on a photography holiday?
We offer a range of destinations for your photography holiday. In Gozo, you’ll be accompanied by professional photographer Pete Bullen for a hands-on approach to landscape photography.
In Iceland, whale watching and Aurora hunting are prime photographic opportunities and are definitely memories you’ll want evidence of.
No matter which of our photography holidays you choose, you are sure to capture some once-in-a-lifetime experiences of the destination.
