Our ‘Beautiful Borneo Encompassed’ holiday offers a truly unforgettable journey around Sabah, taking in its true highlights all in one itinerary. You’ll witness wildlife above and below the water and explore some of the most pristine landscapes on the planet.
If you prefer more active exploration then take a look at our 'Adventure in Borneo' holiday which will see you diving in the turquoise waters, mountain biking through villages, rafting on the rivers and trekking in the jungle as you travel.
There are few places in the world that can compare with the sheer diversity of delights Borneo offers and our trips ensure you see them at their best.
As well as all the spectacles that the landscape of Borneo offers with its mountains, forests and islands, a world awaits under its turquoise waters and it remains one of the best places in the world for scuba diving.
Our holiday extension includes an Open Water PADI course which takes in some incredible diving sites on the reefs of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park and provides you with a PADI qualification at the end. The course will include some open ocean dives where a tropical world can be found.
Stunning marine life is an everyday occurrence in these waters and you can hope to see larger creatures such as sea turtles and rays as well as clownfish, cuttlefish, moray eels, lionfish and puffer fish.
Even if you don’t opt for our diving trip, you can explore the waters whilst snorkelling around the islands taking in the colourful reef life as you enjoy the water.
Rainforests and their wondrous wildlife
Rainforests cover around half of Sabah and it is easy to explore the impressive beauty of these forests in protected regions such as the inspiring Danum Valley. You can stay at the heart of 438 square kilometres of relatively untouched forest landscape as part of our ‘Beautiful Borneo Encompassed’ holiday.
Of course, it’s the scenery here that offers the real appeal, with a diversity of flora and fauna to behold and every chance of seeing an array of animals from pygmy elephants to gibbons to clouded leopards, wildcats, rare bird species and more.
Animals abound in Borneo and throughout your stay the opportunities to see animals in their natural habitats are plentiful.
At Kinabatangan, you will stay at the edge of the rainforest, an excellent base for seeking out the local animal inhabitants and there will be local boat tours to seek out sightings of proboscis monkeys, leaf monkeys and macaques, swinging from the trees above you. A night in a rainforest lodge means you can fall asleep to the sounds of the creatures surrounding you.
Borneo is home to the world famous Gomantong Caves, home to thousands of nesting swifts as well as numerous species of bats and insects, there is much to marvel upon. The nests here are harvested to create bird’s nest soup, a rare and much sought after delicacy and visits here will offer an insight into this fascinating industry.
The regions you will visit are also home to an array of indigenous animals, many of whom are endangered due to hunting and loss of their natural habitat. We will take you to conservation centres for sun bears (the world’ smallest bear reaching a miniature height of only 150 cm) as well as the world famous Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Here you can see how the orangutans are cared for and hopefully catch a glimpse of these impressive mammals as they swing freely through the treetops. Enjoy a visit also to the Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary, where you can watch these funny nosed monkeys up close.
